Organizations Filed Purposes: SOUTHERN VALLEY ALLIANCE FOR BATTERED WOMEN'S MISSION IS TO ASSIST VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

PROVIDES SUPPORT, REFERRAL SERVICES AND ADVOCACY TO BATTERED WOMEN AND OTHER VICTIMS OF FAMILY ABUSE LIVING IN SCOTT AND CARVER COUNTIES (MINNESOTA). THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PROVIDES INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND ITS EFFECTS.

CRISIS INTERVENTION AND ADVOCACY - OUR STAFF MEMBERS AND TRAINED VOLUNTEERS SERVE AS ADVOCATES TO INDIVIDUALS WHO CALL THE CRISIS LINE AND WHO ARE REFERRED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT FOLLOWING A DOMESTIC ASSAULT CALL. THEY WORK ONE-TO-ONE WITH VICTIMS, HELPING THEM TO IDENTIFY NEEDS AND ASSESS OPTIONS. ADVOCATES MAY HELP ARRANGE A SAFE PLACE TO GO, ASSIST WITH FILING ORDERS FOR PROTECTION, ACCOMPANY VICTIMS TO COURT HEARINGS, HELP OBTAIN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WAIVERS AT WORKFORCE CENTERS, AND MAKE REFERRALS TO OTHER SERVICES. THEY DO WHATEVER'S NEEDED TO HELP THE VICTIM ESCAPE THE VIOLENT AND UNHEALTHY SITUATION AND SURVIVE THE CRISIS.24-HOUR CRISIS LINE - PAID AND VOLUNTEER ADVOCATES STAFF THIS CONFIDENTIAL, 24/7 SERVICE. THEY LISTEN AND HELP WHENEVER VICTIMS CAN GET A MOMENT AWAY FROM THEIR ABUSER TO PHONE US. FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS OF VICTIMS ALSO CALL FOR INFORMATION AND RESOURCES.SAFE HOUSING - IF VICTIMS OR THEIR CHILDREN NEED TO ESCAPE IMMEDIATE DANGER, WE BOOK A HOTEL WHERE THEY CAN SAFELY STAY FOR UP TO THREE DAYS WHILE THEY IDENTIFY OPTIONS, MAKE DECISIONS, AND FORMULATE LONGER-TERM PLANS.WOMEN'S SUPPORT GROUPS - IN CONFIDENTIAL MEETINGS WITH PEERS, SURVIVORS BEGIN THE MENTAL, EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL JOURNEY OUT OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. TRAINED VOLUNTEER FACILITATORS, WHO ARE SOMETIMES SURVIVORS THEMSELVES, LEAD DISCUSSIONS, ADDRESS COMMON MISPERCEPTIONS ABOUT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, AND OFFER INSIGHTS AND SUPPORT. FOR MANY PARTICIPANTS, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THEY BREAK THE SILENCE THAT SURROUNDED THEIR ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP. THEY BEGIN TO FEEL LESS ISOLATED, CLARIFY FEELINGS, AND IDENTIFY STRATEGIES TO REMOVE THEMSELVES FROM VIOLENCE.

I'M O.K. CHILDREN'S VISITATION CENTER - THIS IS A SUPERVISED VISITATION SITE FOR NON-CUSTODIAL PARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN. THE SAFE AND CHILD-FRIENDLY CENTER IS AVAILABLE TO FAMILIES WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR CONFLICT ABOUT PARENTING TIME. WE ALSO OFFER SUPERVISED EXCHANGES BETWEEN PARENTS. THE CENTER IS IN HIGH DEMAND, INCLUDING FROM FAMILIES OUTSIDE OF SCOTT AND CARVER COUNTIES.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND EDUCATION - SVABW PARTNERS WITH MANY OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO SUPPORT VICTIM-SURVIVORS AND INCREASE AWARENESS ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. WE PROVIDE RESOURCES TO THE COMMUNITY, STRIVE TO REDUCE THE INCIDENCE AND STIGMA OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, AND EMPOWER VICTIM-SURVIVORS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
