ACER ORGANIZED RESIDENTS AND WORKED WITH KEY PARTNERS TO ADDRESS UNHEALTHY HOUSING LIVING CONDITIONS AND ISSUES OF HOUSING INSECURITY THAT DISPROPORTIONATELY IMPACT LOW WEALTH RESIDENTS OF COLOR. WORKING WITH PARTNERS, ACER HAS SAVED THREATENED AFFORDABLE HOUSING, DEVELOPED TENANT LEADERSHIP ACROSS THE NW SUBURBS AND BUILT PARTNERSHIPS TO CREATE THE POLITICAL WILL TO PASS ORDINANCES THAT SUPPORT THE CONTINUED PRODUCTION OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING, PRESERVE AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND PROTECT TENANTS RIGHTS. ACER HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN CHAMPIONING FOR TENANTS RIGHTS AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING AS A MEANS OF STABILIZING COMMUNITIES.

HEALTH EQUITY: ACER BROADLY CONTRIBUTES TO COMMUNITY HEALTH BY IMPROVING HOUSING, CREATING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, BUILDING COMMUNITY WEALTH, AND INCREASING ACCESS TO QUALITY JOBS. WE ALSO FOCUS DIRECTLY ON HEALTH ISSUES, ENSURING THAT AFRICAN IMMIGRANTS AND OTHER BIPOC CAN LIVE FULL, HEALTHY LIVES AND THRIVE. WE ENGAGE AFRICAN IMMIGRANTS AND OTHER BIPOC COMMUNITIES IN UNDERSTANDING HEALTH EQUITY ISSUES, CHANGING PERSONAL BEHAVIORS TO ENCOURAGE BETTER HEALTH OUTCOMES, AND ADVOCATING FOR SYSTEMS AND POLICY CHANGES THAT WILL SUPPORT A STRONG, ROBUST, AND HEALTHY COMMUNITY. ACER CREATES OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO PARTICIPATE IN HEALTHY ACTIVITIES, ACCESS NUTRITIOUS FOOD AND SECURE HEALTH SERVICES. WE SUPPORT AFRICAN-LED HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS, ENGAGING THEIR LARGE MEMBERSHIPS TO BUILD POWER FOR HEALTH EQUITY. WE ALSO PARTNER WITH RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS TO STUDY AND CREATE SOLUTIONS TO DISPARATE HEALTH OUTCOMES AFFECTING OUR COMMUNITIES.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: AFRICAN IMMIGRANTS FACE A RANGE OF ECONOMIC DISPARITIES IN THE NW SUBURBS. ACER BELIEVES THAT AFRICAN PEOPLE HOLD THE KEYS TO UNLOCKING THEIR OWN ECONOMIC POTENTIAL. ACER SUPPORTS MICRO BUSINESSES, RECOGNIZING THAT THEY ARE AN IMPORTANT ECONOMIC ENGINE FOR BOTH OUR COMMUNITIES AND OUR CITIES. ACER PROMOTES AND SUPPORTS ECONOMIC COOPERATIVE APPROACHES THAT ARE CULTURALLY RELEVANT AND RESPONSIVE. ACER ALSO ADVANCES ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES THAT BUILD ON THE STRENGTHS AND NORMS OF THE AFRICAN AND OTHER IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES, TO GENERATE HOMEGROWN COMMUNITY WEALTH. ACER ALSO ACTS AS A STRATEGIC CONVENER TO BRING TOGETHER STAKEHOLDERS TO ADDRESS ISSUES OF ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE THAT WILL BENEFIT OUR COMMUNITIES AND INCREASE ECONOMIC EQUITY AND WEALTH GENERATION.
