Organizations Filed Purposes: Connecting Animals In Need With People Who Care

Through our Foster and Adoption Program, we rescue, house, care for, and re-home unwanted and homeless canine and feline companion animals. Until they are adopted, cats/kittens live in and are adopted from foster homes, our Adoption and Wellness Center or an Adoption Center at one of our local participating pet supply stores. Dogs live in and are adopted from foster homes. While in our care, all animals receive high-quality veterinary care, including sterilization surgery, food, behavioral support, and other items and services to prepare them for their adoptive homes. We also provide ongoing support, such as resources and advice, to our adopters to ensure they are set up for success from the moment they bring home their new pet. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Adoption and Wellness Center was temporarily closed, beginning in March, with limited and reduced numbers of felines being housed in that facility. However, due to more foster homes becoming available due to societal changes caused by the pandemic (i.e. more people working from home), we were able to take in and place as many felines as the the previous 12-month period and many more canines, increasing dog/puppy adoptions by 98% over the prior year. In Fiscal Year 2020, 663 animals were adopted in total, with a live release rate of over 99%.

Fur Keeps Program: Fur Keeps supports families in need and their pets by providing them with foood, veterinary care, resources, and other services. By helping these families, we keep pets at home where they belong and prevent happy, healthy pets from entering the shelter system. Fur Keeps is divided into three sub-programs: Food Shelf Support, Wilson's Emergency Fund, and Shelter Diversion. Food Shelf Support: We proudly partner with the Community Action Partnership (CAP) of Scott, Carver, and Dakota Counties. Each month, we deliver cat and dog food to the CAP-run community food shelf - about 300 pounds each month. We also connect CAP clients with other pet-related resources and assistance. In Fiscal Year 2020, over 3600 pounds of food was donated to CAP. Wilson's Emergency Fund: A generous donor created this fund to help families who face the difficult decision of euthanizing or surrendering a pet who is experiencing an emergency medical situation. Many families do not have immediate access to funds to pay for emergency veterinary care. Wilson's Emergency Fund covers 50% of the emergency care provided, up to $1000. In fiscal year 2020, only 4 families were served via Wilson's Emergency Fund due to a shortage of staff necessary to oversee the program. Shelter Diversion: Our Shelter Diversion Team helps families find solutions to common pet-related issues. We offered support and resources, including rehoming assistance and basic veterinary care, to more than 100 families. (Continued in Schedule O.)

TNR Program: Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is an effective approach to managing outdoor cat colonies. Through TNR, cats are humanely trapped, spayed!neutered, and then returned to their original colonies where they have already been living and thriving. TNR improves the lives of the cats, addresses community concerns, reduces complaints about cats, and stops their breeding cycle, essentially reducing the population. In Fiscal Year 2020, the difficult decision was made to pull back from actively managing feral and community cat colonies and focus our limited resources elsewhere. However, we are still involved with T NR in that we are frequently promoting and supporting the concept its importance in animal welfare. We are a resource for people and community cats, including connecting them with veterinary services, supplying food for managed colonies, and advocating for the use of TNR.
