Organizations Filed Purposes:
Promote sustainable, quality programs for all Chester Bowl Park users in a healthy and safe environment.
Alpine Ski and Snowboard Program: During the winter, the CBIC operates a popular Alpine Ski and Snowboard area located within a City of Duluth park that has enabled generations of Minnesotans to learn to ski and snowboard. The CBIC has furthered its vision of a healthy Duluth by purchasing and then renting skis, poles, boots, and helmets at a minimal cost to users. This past winter there were approximately 1,200 sets of gear rentals for the season, and 1,812 season passes issued. The chalet at Chester Bowl Park maintains an inexpensive food service, offers free lessons, and sponsors six ski and snowboard races. Our program is heavily supported by volunteerism; 5,439 documented hours of volunteering were contributed this winter. At Chester Bowl, we believe anyone should to be able to participate in our programs regardless of their ability to pay; during the winter of 2019/2020, we awarded $28,006 in family ski program scholarships.
Chester Bowl Summer Camp: During the summer months the CBIC operates a day camp. With a daily capacity of 65, approximately 160 children ages 6-15 attended at least one of our 43 programming days in 2019 (11 weeks, Mon-Thurs). The day camp takes advantage of Chester Bowl Parks natural environment while also sponsoring field trips to locations such as the Duluth Public Library, University of Minnesota Duluth, and various Duluth Parks. We tell parents, we promise to return your child tired, happy, and dirty! Our Summer Day Camp was priced at only $29 per day per child for full day (8-5) programming. Campers choose to attend and pay for only those days that work for them, with no minimum commitment. As part of our commitment to full access to our program, our scholarship program awarded $7,517 in 2019 to families that are unable to afford the daily fees.
