TOTAL GRANTS AWARDED (INCLUDING INTERFUND GRANTS) FOR ALL PROGRAM AREAS WAS $2,480,482 COMPRISED OF: 20% UNRESTRICTED FUNDS, 22.1% DESIGNATED, 18.7% FIELD OF INTEREST, 13.4% ORGANIZATIONAL ENDOWMENTS, 13.6% SCHOLARSHIPS AND 12.2% DONOR ADVISED. THE LARGEST PROGRAM AREA SUPPORTED WAS HUMAN SERVICES WITH 41% OF GRANT FUNDS, FOLLOWED BY 16% IN EDUCATION, 15% IN SCHOLARSHIPS, 10% IN COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, 7% IN ENVIRONMENT, 7% IN ARTS, AND 4% OTHER.IN 2019 THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDED $282,224 IN SCHOLARSHIPS FROM ENDOWED FUNDS AND $55,500 FROM 9 TEMPORARY SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS THAT THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIP SERVICES FOR. IN ADDITION, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES FOR TWO AFFILIATED SCHOLARSHIPS TOTALING $355,434 WHERE ALL OF THE FUNDS ARE HELD BY A LOCAL BANK.
IN 2019, DSACF COLLABORATED WITH MULTIPLE COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES TO IMPROVE PUBLIC DISCOURSE THROUGH SPEAK YOUR PEACE: THE CIVILITY PROJECT INITIATIVE. ALSO, 2019 WAS THE 5TH YEAR FOR DSACF TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PHILANTHROPIC PREPAREDNESS, RESILIENCY AND EMERGENCY PARTNERSHIP (PPREP) PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM HELPS COMMUNITY FOUNDATIONS IMPROVE THEIR COMMUNITIES' CAPACITY TO PREPARE FOR AND RESPOND TO DISASTERS AND BUILD LOCAL DISASTER RESILIENCE. AN AMERICORP VISTA MEMBER SERVED A YEAR-LONG ASSIGNMENT, BUILDING CAPACITY OF THE LOCAL DISASTER RESILIENCE NETWORK, READY NORTH. IN 2019, DSACF CONTINUED ITS WORK ON OPPORTUNITY RISING BY WORKING TO SHARE THE STORIES OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS THROUGH STORY CORPS. GRANT AND SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING IN 2019 ALSO SUPPORTED THE OPPORTUNITY RISING INITIATIVE. THE PURPOSE OF OPPORTUNITY RISING IS TO BRING TOGETHER PEOPLE FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS, INCOMES, ETHNICITIES, BELIEFS AND NEIGHBORHOODS TO FORGE A PATH TO REAL AND MEANINGFUL EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR EVERY CHILD IN DULUTH AND SUPERIOR. THE ATTRACT AND RETAIN YOUNG ADULTS INITIATIVE CONTINUED ITS MISSION OF INCREASING THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT OF YOUNG ADULTS IN THE TWIN PORTS OF DULUTH AND SUPERIOR THROUGH GRANTMAKING AND SUPPORT OF THE 20 UNDER 40 AWARDS. THIS PROGRAMING IS IN ADDITION TO DSACF'S ON-GOING GRANT AND SCHOLARSHIP ACTIVITY.
