MAKING EQUAL GENDERS AWESOME (MEGA) ENCOURAGES HEALTHY MASCULINITY AT EARLY AGES THROUGH SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING, RACE AND GENDER EQUITY CURRICULA, AND NONVIOLENT CONFLICT RESOLUTION TARGETED TOWARDS 4TH - 6TH GRADE BOYS. MEGA SURVEY DATA SUGGESTS THAT BOYS PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM HAVE A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR PEERS' EMOTIONS ACROSS THE GENDER SPECTRUM, AND BOYS HAVE DEMONSTRATED THIS UNDERSTANDING WITHIN AND OUTSIDE OF PROGRAM. 100% OF PARTICIPANTS SURVEYED IN 2019 AGREED THAT "GIRLS DESERVE THE SAME RESPECT AS BOYS." THESE RESULTS PROVIDE EVIDENCE THAT THE PROGRAM IS DEVELOPING A STRONGER UNDERSTANDING OF EQUITY AMONGST YOUNG BOYS.
THE GIRLS' RESTORATIVE PROGRAM (GRP) IS AN INTENSIVE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM THAT EDUCATES GIRLS ABOUT ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL WELL-BEING, HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS, COMMUNITY INTERCONNECTEDNESS, AND PROMOTES YOUTH-LED ORGANIZING AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT. PARTICIPANTS ARE LARGELY GIRLS OF COLOR IN 7TH - 12TH GRADE. IN 2019, GRP PARTICIPANTS GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL AT A RATE OF 85%, WHICH IS HIGHER THAN THE DULUTH AVERAGE (75%) & SIGNIFICANTLY ABOVE THE STATEWIDE AVERAGE FOR STUDENTS OF COLOR (62%). OF THOSE GRADUATING IN 2020, 100% ENROLLED, OR ARE IN THE PROCESS OF ENROLLING, IN POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION.
