STFNA IS AN INDUSTRY WIDE ASSOCIATION CREATED TO JOINTLY DEVELOP DATA TO SUPPORT REGISTRATION REVIEW UNDER SECTION 3(G) OF THE FEDERAL INSECTICIDE, FUNGICIDE & RODENTICIDE ACT (FIFRA).
ADMIN PROJECTS: REGULATORY INITIATIVES CONTINUED RELATING TO EPA'S REEVALUATION OF SILVER AS AN ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVE INGREDIENT IN PESTICIDE PRODUCTS. THE STFNA CONTINUES TO WORK WITH THE EPA AND FDA TO ADDRESS AND RESPOND TO REGULATORY INITIATIVES THAT MAY IMPACT THE USE OF SILVER AS AN ANTIMICROBIAL. THE STFNA CONTINUED TO ENGAGE WITH THE EPA TO OBTAIN A DEFINITION OF NANOSILVER. THE STFNA ALSO SUBMITTED TO EPA SEVERAL RATIONALE AND WAIVER ARGUMENTS,AS WELL AS A JUTIFICATION FOR USE OF SILVER ACETATE IN THE REPEAT DOSE INHALATION TOXICITY STUDY.
CANADIAN TREATED ARTICLES PROJECT GROUP: IN 2018 THE CANADIAN PEST MANAGEMENT REGULATORY AGENCY (PMRA) ISSUED A TREATED ARTICLE GUIDANCE DOCUMENT "ACCEPTABLE CLAIMS FOR ARTICLES TREATED WITH ANTIMICROBIAL PRESERVATIVES" ALONG WITH A FACT SHEET OUTLINING CANADIAN POLICY/ACCEPTABLE CLAIMS FOR TREATED ARTICLES SOLD WITHIN CANADA. THE STFNA FORMED THIS PROJECT GROUP IN 2019 TO MONITOR AND ENGAGE WITH TRADE TO UNDERTAND HOW THIS NEW CANADIAN POLICY FOR TREATED ARTICLES WOULD EVOLVE. IN FOLLOWUP TO THE 2018 DOCUMENTS ISSUED BY PMRA, REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STFNA MET WITH PMRA IN 2020 TO DISCUSS THE REGISTRATION OF SILVER-BASED PRODUCTS IN CANADA. IN LATE 2020 IT WAS AGREED THAT THIS PROJECT GROUP WOULD BE DISSOLVED AND THESE ACTIVITIES WOULD BE SUPPORTED BY THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP. ACTIVITIES RELATED TO COMPLETING A DATA GAP ANALYSIS BEGAN IN 2020.
