Greater Mankato Area United Way's core commitments are to secure resources, convene the community, and connect people and organizations to resources. Through these actions, United Way aims to ensure the well-being, stability, and self-sufficiency of individuals of all ages and to build a better tomorrow for all in our region.United Way secures resources by successfully soliciting individuals and businesses in the Greater Mankato Area during the annual campaign. More than 1,000 volunteers donated over 9,000 hours of volunteer service in 2019, enabling United Way to keep overhead low while maximizing impact. In-kind donations, whose value totaled over $660,000 in 2019, are also essential to ensuring United Way's activities have the maximum impact. By receiving a total of $2,102,402.23 in donation pledges (recorded in the statement of activities as of December 31, 2019, 2018 and 2017 of $185,239.43, $1,914,162.80 and $3,000.00 respectively) United Way provided funding to 35 local nonprofit agencies and 53 partner programs in 2019. Community Impact - Education United Way helps to stabilize families in need and gives them tools for success by supporting basic needs, education and health. The focus area of Education is structured to building systems of support for parents and young children to ensure that all children are ready for kindergarten, ensure youth have healthy growth and development opportunities and that youth have access to quality youth development programs that foster positive experiences. These programs served 24,210 youth in 2019. In addition, the United Way Fourth-Grade Book Project served 1600 individuals and the Reading Festival served over 600 individuals.

Community Impact - HealthThe United Way helps people live healthy, independent lives. The focus of Health supports increased independence through building systems of support for older individuals, support for individuals with disabilities to live their lives fully engaged in our communities and supporting vulnerable families and individuals by providing them tools to maintain all aspects of healthy living. These programs served 15,687 people in 2019. In addition, Family Wize served 607 individuals.

Community Impact - Basic Needs The United Way stabilizes families in need and gives them tools for success. The focus of Basic Needs supports advancing the common good by providing basic needs like food, clothing, shelter and emergency services. This focus area also supports programs to increase the self-sufficiency through building systems of support for individuals and families. These programs served 4,772 people in 2019. In addition, Project Community Connected served more than 600 individuals, Week of Action served 135 individuals, 2-1-1 served 777 individuals, and Get Connected served over 550 individuals.
