Organizations Filed Purposes:
Avera is a health ministry rooted in the Gospel. Our mission is to make a positive impact in the lives and health of persons and communities by providing quality services guided by Christian values.
During the period July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016, the Avera Marshall Foundation accomplished the following:a) Continued support of Avera Cancer Institute Marshall - financial assistance of $167k was provided to cover operating costs. b) Medicine Ball Gala- the first annual Gala was held in January with proceeds going towards Cancer Care at Avera Marshall. Approximately 100 persons attended.c) Golf Tournament - The annual Avera Marshall Golf Tournament was held in September to continue fundraising efforts for the Caring For Life Fund. Over 100 participants assisted with the success of this event.d) N. Ben Weiner Scholarship - The Avera Marshall Foundation awarded $4,500 in scholarships to employees of Avera Marshall. Recipients were selected from applications and approved by the Foundation Board.e) Avera Medical Group Scholarship - The Avera Marshall Foundation awarded two $1,000 scholarships to high school students in the region who are majoring in a medical related field. One Marshall Senior High Student and one student from the surrounding communities were selected for the scholarship in the spring of 2016.f) Baby blankets & hats - Avera Marshall had 537 deliveries in FY16. The Avera Marshall Foundation provides materials for area volunteers to knit and sew baby hats and blankets - enough to provide one each, free of charge, to every baby born at Avera Marshall.g) Grateful Patient mailing - each month, a mailing is sent out from the Avera Marshall Foundation to the previous months' patients of Avera Marshall asking for a donation. All mailings are compliant with HIPPA requirements.h) Employee Crisis - The Avera Marshall Foundation has a fund specifically for helping Avera Marshall employees in times of crisis. The fund is supported by donations from employees. For an employee in need, a request form is filled out and turned into the HR Officer for determination. Up to $500 in cash is given to the employee if approved.i) Planned Giving - Avera Marshall joined with other regional Avera Foundations to engage Philanthrocorp in bolstering planned giving efforts. An informational luncheon was held with the group and interested donors, with follow-up work done by Philanthrocorp. Avera Marshall received two planned gifts in FY16 from this effort.j) Misc - other items supported by the Avera Marshall Foundation during FY16 include:- Cash donation to Grace Life Church- Cash provided to Avera Morningside Heights Care Center for Bingo night- Purchase of iTunes gift cards for the Music & Memories program at Avera Morningside Heights- Purchase of books for chemo patients and families
