CANTUS ENGAGES AUDIENCES IN A MEANINGFUL MUSIC EXPERIENCE AND ENSURES (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) THE FUTURE OF ENSEMBLE SINGING BY MENTORING YOUNG SINGERS AND EDUCATORS. CANTUS WAS FOUNDED ON THE IDEALS OF COLLABORATIVE MUSIC-MAKING: ARTISTS AND STAFF WORK TOGETHER TO REACH NEW LEVELS OF ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION AND AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT. OUR VISION IS TO GIVE VOICE TO SHARED HUMAN EXPERIENCES.
ANNUAL HOME CONCERTS: ATTENDANCE OF MORE THAN 3,831 IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS. CANTUS PROGRAMMED AND PERFORMED TWO CONCERT PROGRAMS THAT ADVANCED ITS VISION TO GIVE VOICE TO SHARED HUMAN EXPERIENCE, IN SEASON CUT SHORT BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. AS IN PRIOR YEARS, CANTUS CONCERTS ARE BUILT ON A CENTRAL THEME AND OFTEN INCORPORATE SPOKEN WORD. THE ORGANIZATION PERFORMED THREE NEW WORKS BY COMPOSERS CATHERINE DALTON, CHRIS FOSS, AND GRACE BRIGHAM AS PART OF ITS FALL AND TOURING PROGRAM, "ONE GIANT LEAP." OPEN REHEARSALS: ATTENDANCE OF APPROXIMATELY 50 IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS. CANTUS HAS A TRADITION OF FOSTERING MEANINGFUL ENGAGEMENT WITH AUDIENCE MEMBERS BEYOND STAGED PERFORMANCES. TO FURTHER AUDIENCE RELATIONSHIPS AND ADVANCE UNDERSTANDING OF CANTUS' WORK, THE ORGANIZATION SCHEDULES AND PROMOTES FREE MONTHLY OPEN REHEARSALS BETWEEN AUGUST AND MAY TO PROVIDE THE COMMUNITY WITH ACCESS TO ART AND THE CHANCE TO OBSERVE CANTUS' COLLABORATIVE PROCESS. CANTUS' OPEN REHEARSALS WERE ALSO TRUNCATED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. EDUCATIONAL RESIDENCIES IN HIGH SCHOOLS: 500 ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS. A COMMITMENT TO DEEPENING THE MUSIC-EDUCATION EXPERIENCE IN THE LIVES OF YOUNG PEOPLE IS INTEGRAL TO CANTUS' MISSION. TO MARK THE ENSEMBLE'S 25TH ANNIVERSARY, CANTUS REVISITED EACH SCHOOL IT HAD WORKED WITH THROUGH ITS AWARD-WINNING HIGH SCHOOL RESIDENCY PROGRAM. IN FY20, CANTUS WORKED WITH STUDENTS FROM 12 SCHOOLS IN CENTRAL MINNESOTA BEFORE THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HALTED THE ENSEMBLE'S WORK WITH STUDENTS. MEDIA INITIATIVES: 3 MILLION VIA PUBLIC BROADCASTING, INCLUDING PERFORMANCES BROADCAST ON MINNESOTA PUBLIC RADIO AND SIRIUS XM RADIO'S SYMPHONY HALL CHANNEL. CANTUS RECORDS HOME CONCERTS AND MAKES PORTIONS AVAILABLE ONLINE AND THROUGH DIGITAL AND BROADCAST MEDIA. CANTUS HAS BEGUN RELEASING A NEW MUSIC VIDEO EACH MONTH TO OFFER BROADER ACCESS TO ITS MUSIC. CANTUS HAS ALSO RELEASED 20 CDS ON ITS OWN LABEL, INCLUDING ITS MOST RECENT: A LIVE RECORDING OF ITS CHRISTMAS 2019 PROGRAM, "CHRISTMAS WITH CANTUS: THREE TALES OF CHRISTMAS." TOURING: 8,000 PEOPLE SERVED. DEMAND FOR CANTUS IS STRONG IN MINNESOTA, ACROSS THE UNITED STATES, AND INTERNATIONALLY. IN FY20, CANTUS PERFORMED CONCERTS FROM COAST TO COAST, INCLUDING ENGAGEMENTS IN NORTH ANDOVER, MASSACHUSETTS; CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE; ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN; DES MOINES, IOWA; ATHENS, OHIO; AND ASHLAND, OREGON, AS WELL AS AT THE KENNEDY CENTER IN WASHINGTON, D.C. WITHIN MINNESOTA, CANTUS COMPLETED ENGAGEMENTS IN ROCHESTER, INTERNATIONAL FALLS, VIRGINIA, GRAND MARAIS, BRAINERD, AND DETROIT LAKES. IN CONJUNCTION WITH ITS NATIONAL TOURING, CANTUS ALSO LED WORKSHOPS AND MASTER CLASSES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN OREGON, MERRIMACK COLLEGE, AND ELSEWHERE. CANTUS' TOURING WAS CUT SHORT BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
