Organizations Filed Purposes:
CTUL IS A WORKER-LED ORGANIZATION WHERE WORKERS ORGANIZE, EDUCATE AND EMPOWER EACH OTHER TO FIGHT FOR A VOICE IN THEIR WORKPLACES AND IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE ORGANIZATION PARTNER WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS AND LEADERS TO BUILD A MOVEMENT TO WIN RACIAL, GENDER AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE. CTUL IDENTIFY THE ROOT CAUSES OF INJUSTICE AND WORK TO SHIFT THE BALANCE OF POWER BETWEEN THOSE WHO HAVE IT AND THOSE WHO DON'T TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF OUR COMMUNITIES FOR PRESENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS.
DEFENSORESIN 2019 THE DEFENSORES PROGRAM REACHED 240 LOW-WAGE WORKERS WITH BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR RIGHTS IN THE WORKPLACE. OF THESE, 68 WENT ON TO MORE IN-DEPTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ON TOPICS INCLUDING HOW TO RECOVER STOLEN WAGES AND A DETAILED COURSE ON MINNEAPOLIS MUNICIPAL LABOR STANDARDS. IN 2019 THE DEFENSORES COMMITTEE BEGAIN PRODUCING A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER FOR CTUL MEMBERS AND OTHERS INTERESTED IN LEARNING ABOUT HOW TO MAKE THEIR VOICES HEARD ON WORKPLACE RIGHTS ISSUES.CONSTRUCTIONIN 2019 CTUL'S CONSTRUCTION CAMPAIGN REACHED 182 NON-UNION CONSTRUCTION WORKERS WITH BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR WORKPLACE RIGHTS. OF THESE, 67 WENT ON TO MORE IN-DEPTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN TOPICS INCLUDING PUBLIC SPEAKING AND HOW TO RECOVER STOLEN WAGES. SEVERAL OF THESE WORKERS TRANSITIONED OUT OF DANGEROUS LABOR TRAFFICKING SITUATIONS WITH CTUL'S SUPPORT. THE CONSTRUCTION CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE'S MAJOR PROJECT IN 2019 WAS CREATING A MODEL CODE OF CONDUCT FOR DEVELOPERS AND GENERAL CONTRACTORS SEEKING TO ELIMINATE LABOR TRAFFICKING AND OTHER WORKPLACE RIGHTS ABUSES ON THEIR JOBSITES.CTUL'S FIGHT FOR 15 PROGRAM REACHED 175 PEOPLE IN 2019 WITH BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR RIGHTS UNDER THE NEW MINIMUM WAGE ORDINANCE PASSED BY THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL. OF THESE, 76 WENT ON TO MORE IN-DEPTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INCLUDING TRAININGS ON HOW TO RECOVER STOLEN WAGES AND PUBLIC SPEAKING. IN 2019 CTUL'S FIGHT FOR 15 CAMPAIGN UNCOVERED MANY INSTANCES OF WORKERS BEING PAID BELOW ST. PAUL'S NEW MINIMUM WAGE, AS WELL AS BEING DENIED THE EARNED SICK AND SAFE TIME BENEFITS THEY WERE ENTITLED TO UNDER ST. PAUL'S ESST ORDINANCE, MAKING THE CASE FOR STRONGER ENFORCEMENT MEASURES SO THAT ALL WORKERS BENEFIT AS INTENDED. THE FIGHT FOT 15 PROGRAM FOLDED AT THE END OF 2019. GOING FORWARD CTUL'S WORK IN ST. PAUL WILL BE DONE THROUGH THE SKYWAYS PROGRAM.
