Fight poverty in the Twin Cities by raising the living standards of individuals living below the poverty line in our seven-county metropolitan area.
In fiscal year 2020, Constellation Fund staff implemented its first two grant rounds following the pilot grant round. Constellation's staff worked to improve grantmaking processes, refine its qualitative evaluation, and staff began implementing a cultivation strategy. This strategy was implemented by the following:- Reducing the number of evaluations that an Impact Officer conducts each cycle from seven to five, freeing more time for deliberate outreach and cultivation efforts.- Each Impact Officer set a quarterly goal to cultivate organizations that are led by people of color to hold ourselves accountable. - Impact Officers conducted targeted informational interviews with subject matter experts and nonprofit leaders in the Twin Cities to broaden Constellation's knowledge-base and perspective. - With intention, Constellation increased the number of applicants led by people of color that are selected for full evaluations.Constellation Fund awarded grants to 43 nonprofit organizations totaling $2,012,633, with no restrictions on the use of funds, a rare form of capital in the philanthropic sector that allows the organizations to grow their impact purposefully. In addition, grantees received connections to best-in-class pro bono partners to provide services and expertise otherwise inaccessible to most poverty-fighting organizations.
