Organizations Filed Purposes:
GHM continues the holistic ministry of Jesus Christ by partnering with Lutheran efforts globally to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of communities served.
Global Health Ministries builds partnerships to benefit Lutheran efforts in health care for some of the world's most vulnerable people. GHM accomplishes this mission with three broad strategies: Shipping, grassroots efforts and leadership training
Shipping Medical Supplies and Equipment: Most mission hospitals lack important medical equipment and even basic supplies. Global Health Ministries (GHM) gathers donated medical items, from exam gloves to ultrasounds, and matches them to requests frompartners in developing countries. We purchase and ship new equipment as well, making quality health care accessible for some of the world's most vulnerable people. In 2020 GHM shipped 9 sea containers in support of hospitals and clinics in 6 countries. Twelve travelers hand carried medical supplies and equipment in 18 suitcases to 11 different countries.
Grassroots efforts: GHM supports efforts to train and sustain Community Health Workers (CHW) to build capacity in lower & middle income countries to improve health and effect sustainable and enduring change. In 2020 GHM supported CHW programs in El Salvador, Madagascar, Nicaragua, Nigeria, and Tanzania, which included the launch of a new program in the Tanzania and a new Community Health Nurse Program in Madagascar. Faced with the coronavirus pandemic, these supported CHW programs help to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. GHM also provided PPE and/or access to targeted information in 13 countries and participated in funding an isolation unit in Liberia.
Leadership Training: Upon request GHM offers consultants in governance, management, and leadership for health leaders in the developing world, through our consulting department, GHAP (Global Health Administration Partners). In 2020 GHAP conducted consultation in 4 countries and is enhancing long-term relationships in several other partner countries. GHM funded 725 scholarships and training in 6 countries.
