The neighborhood food shelf is the core program of Groveland Emergency Food Shelf, Inc. The shelf has operated since the early 1970's, was incorporated in 1998, affirmed as a non-profit in 2003. On average, approximately 2,065 clients used the shelf January through March. That number jumped to 4,892 on average the last 9 months of the year after the pandemic took hold. Approximately 35 lbs of food were distributed to each client. That amounts to about 1,757,770 lbs of food distributed in 2020.

Groveland Emergency Food Shelf, Inc. operates, in collaboration with Minneapolis Community & Technical College (aka Minneapolis College), a satelite food shelf on the MCTC campus. Close to 50 Students used the Minneapolis College Food Pantry each week. There were a total of 1,051 visits to the Pantry in 2020 even though it was closed for four months due to the pandemic.

Groveland began a new collaboration in 2020 with Liberty Community Church in N. Minneapolis. This collaboration takes several forms. 1) Grants were made to the church's emergency fund designated for food relief, 2) Fresh produce, meats and other perishables were provided for meals to students of the church's 21st Century Academy, an after-school program that acted as a WiFi pod during most of the pandemic and 3) excess food was provided to people in the neighboring community of the church. Due to the pandemic and the newness of this collaboration, management of statistics was negligible. However, there were at varying 25-50 students being served three meals a week and 20 families accessing the excess produce.
