The mission is to advance educational and economic opportunities for Lao people and strengthen their connection to Lao culture and traditional values.
Health Education and Prevention Programs reach seniors with important preventive health information. Activities include exercise (Tai-Chi Quan-Moving for a better balance). The culturally-tailored congregate meals program served 105 clients a total of 8,248 meals It promotes good health, improves nutrition status, and increases socialization. Additional activities include ethnic dance, elder's wisdom (elder circle), picnics, field trips, garden, SNAP, and socialize with others. Civic Engagement and Community Empowerment Programs offer English Language, Basic computer use, and Citizenship classes. Live Well at Home empowers elders to remain in their homes.
Assisted transportation programs served 134 clients with 14,143 rides. assisted transportation is provided for clients 60 and over to a variety of destinations including medical appointments, food shelf, congregate dining, daily errands, educational classes and socialization
Special Access programs provide advocacy to access daily needed services in a timely manner and ensure fair treatment from community-based and government resources such as: legal, healthcare, SNAP, housing, social services providers. Many Lao and Hmong seniors may not know where to find help for issues that they face. The staff and volunteers are able to understand the cultural context of a problem and can assist individual seniors in expressing their needs. Special Access reached 180 clients with 2,532 individual services.
