THE ORGANIZATION IS A DIVERSE COMMUNITY DRIVEN ORGANIZATION THAT BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER TO WORK ON COMMON ISSUES AND OPPORTUNITIES TO ENSURE ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE, WORK, AND PLAY IN A SAFE, VIBRANT, AND SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY.

THE MISSION OF THE LYNDALE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION IS TO BE A VEHICLE FOR OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO SHAPE THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD THROUGH ENGAGING OUR DIVERSE COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO BUILD A SAFE, VIBRANT AND SUSTAINABLE NEIGHBORHOOD. OUR WORK IMPROVES THE PHYSICAL SPACES OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND IMPROVES THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THOSE LIVING IN AND AROUND THE LYNDALE NEIGHBORHOOD. WITH MORE THAN 7,400 PEOPLE, LYNDALE IS ONE OF THE MOST DIVERSE NEIGHBORHOODS IN MINNESOTA. LOCATED IN THE HEART OF SOUTH MINNEAPOLIS, OUR NEIGHBORHOOD IS COMPRISED OF PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE, ALL INCOMES, AND ALL PLACES OF ORIGIN ALL OVER THE PLANET. IN 2019, OUR WORK CONTRIBUTED TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD BY:-PROVIDING APPROXIMATELY 13,000 HOURS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND ADULT BASIC EDUCATION INSTRUCTION TO OVER 160 NEW MINNESOTANS; ADDING EXTRA DAYS TO OUR ESL COURSE SCHEDULE AND INTRODUCING OUR FIRST DIGITAL LITERACY INSTRUCTION LAB COURSE; PROVIDING OVER 2400 HOURS OF INDIVIDUALIZED BASIC EDUCATION INSTRUCTION AND GED PREPARATION SUPPORT TO 86 FORMERLY INCARCERATED ADULTS; EXCEEDING MN DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION'S ANNUAL GOALS FOR STUDENT LEVEL GAINS ON A STATE-MANDATED ADULT LITERACY READING TEST (~45% OF ALL STUDENTS MADE A GAIN OF ONE READING LEVEL OR MORE AFTER PARTICIPATING IN OUR COURSES IN 2019), A DRAMATIC IMPROVEMENT FROM PREVIOUS YEARS DUE TO TARGETED SKILLS INSTRUCTION AND IMPROVED TESTING PRACTICES. -PROVIDING APPROXIMATELY 18,000 HOURS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND ADULT BASIC EDUCATION INSTRUCTION TO OVER 250 NEW MINNESOTANS - PROVIDING OVER 1700 HOURS OF INDIVIDUALIZED BASIC EDUCATION INSTRUCTION AND GED PREPARATION SUPPORT TO 106 FORMERLY INCARCERATED ADULTS-BRINGING OVER 15,000 NEIGHBORS TOGETHER IN CELEBRATION BY HOSTING A SERIES OF COMMUNITY AND CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT EVENTS INCLUDING NICOLLET OPEN STREETS AND OUR ANNUAL LYNFEST COMMUNITY CELEBRATION - IMPROVING SAFETY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD THROUGH THE ORGANIZATION OF THE LYNDALE WALKERS NEIGHBORHOOD PATROL AND MINNEAPOLIS POLICE DEPARTMENT BIKE PATROL - ADVOCATING FOR THE RIGHTS OF LOW-INCOME TENANTS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD THROUGH ORGANIZING OF TENANTS- COMMUNICATING IMPORTANT HAPPENINGS THROUGH ORGANIZING OF TENANTS AND PUBLICATION OF OUR AWARD WINNING NEWSPAPER, THE VOCES DE SOUTH CENTRAL, AND ON OUR WEBSITE, WWW.LYNDALE.ORG - BUILDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD THROUGH PROVIDING OVER $10,000 IN FAADE MATCHING GRANTS TO LOCAL BUSINESSES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF MINNEAPOLIS- ENGAGING MORE THAN 150 ACTIVE VOLUNTEERS IN VARIOUS COMMUNITY BUILDING PROJECTS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD - SERVING AS A COMMUNICATION CONDUIT BETWEEN NEIGHBORS, DEVELOPERS AND THE CITY GOVERNMENT ON IMPORTANT LAND ACQUISITIONS AND ZONING CHANGES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD ENSURING FOOD SECURITY TO THOSE IN NEED BY PROVIDING OVER 2000 FREE/"PAY WHAT YOU CAN" HEALTHY MEALS TO NEIGHBORS AND PROVIDING OVER AN ACRE OF LAND TO COMMUNITY GARDENERS TO PROVIDE THEIR OWN PRODUCE - PROVIDING MANY OTHER SERVICES THAT IMPROVE AND BRING TOGETHER THE LYNDALE COMMUNITY.
