MFT represents its membership, negotiates three contracts, and works to improve the material conditions for learning in our public schools.

The Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and ESP (Education Support Professionals), Local 59, is the exclusive representative of the teachers and educational assistants employed by the Minneapolis Schools. We work in collaboration with the Minneapolis Public Schools to provide high quality education to the children and families of Minneapolis.We have been serving the needs of our members since 1919. We are proud of our members and of what they do. They are among the best educators in the country. We are affiliates of the American Federation of Teachers, the AFL-CIO, and Education Minnesota. We are also founding members of the Teacher Union Reform Network (TURN), and a network of the most progressive teacher unions in the country.The mission of the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO, improves the lives of our members and their families, gives voice to their legitimate professional, economic and social aspirations, strengthens the institutions in which we work, improves the quality of the services we provide, brings together all members to assist and support one another and to promote democracy, human rights and freedom in our union, in our nation and throughout the world.
