TO WORK COLLARBORATIVELY WITH SCHOOLS AND EDUCATIONALLY FOCUSED COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS AND SKILLS TRAINING TO INDIVIDUALS IN NEED.
THE PROGRAM INVOLVES REFURBISHING AND RECYCLING COMPUTERS THAT ARE DONATED BY LOCAL CORPORATIONS AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES. THESE COMPUTERS ARE THEN SOLD AT DISCOUNTED PRICES OR GIFTED TO SCHOOLS, TEACHERS, NOT-FOR- PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND DISADVANTAGED YOUTH THROUGHOUT MINNESOTA. MCFS IMPROVES STUDENT SUCCESS BY TRANSFORMING COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY TO PROVIDE GREATER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS IN MINNESOTA. IN 2019 6,400 CPU, LAPTOPS, LCD, AND PRINTERS WERE RECEIVED AND 2402 PLACED.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT - PROVIDED 21 PAID INTERNSHIPS AT THE NEW MALCOLM FACILITY. INTERNS WERE TAUGHT ON-THE-JOB TECHNOLOGY SKILLS TO ENHANCE THEIR CERTIFICATIONS. IN 2019 WE TAUGHT 312 STUDENTS COMPUTER REFURBISHING SKILLS, COMPTIA IT FUNDAMENTALS +, CISCO IT ESSENTIALS AND COMPTIA A+. ADDITIONALLY, YOUTH PROGRAMMING INCLUDED GAME, WEB AND APP DESIGN THROUGH MCFS CORE:IT TRAINING PROGRAM. CLASSES WERE HELD AT MINNEAPOLIS URBAN LEAGUE, NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE, SAINT PAUL COLLEGE, AND MURRAY MIDDLE SCHOOL. 186 STUDENTS RECEIVED CERTIFICATES IN 2019.
