Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MISSION OF THE MINNESOTA TEAMSTERS SERVICE BUREAU IS TWOFOLD; (1) TO ASSIST IN RAISING THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE TEAMSTERS UNION MEMBERSHIP THROUGH DEVELOPMENT OF A SUPPORTIVE ATMOSPHERE IN WHICH MEMBERS FEEL COMFORTABLE IN ASKING FOR ASSISTANCE TO ADDRESS DEVELOPING OR EXISTING PROBLEMS IN THEIR LIVES AND (2) ADMINISTERING GRANTS FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, AND OTHER AGENCIES, TO PROVIDE SERVICES TO DISLOCATED AND INCUMBENT WORKERS.
TO PROVIDE INFORMATION, REFERRAL ASSISTANCE AND ADVOCACY FOR PEOPLE IN NEED OF HUMAN SERVICES.
THE DISLOCATED WORKER PROGRAM SERVES INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE LOST THEIR JOB THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES CAREER COUNSELING, RESUME ASSISTANCE, JOB SEARCH WORKSHOPS, SUPPORT SERVICES, FUNDING FOR CREDENTIAL AND NON-CREDENTIAL TRAINING, AND JOB PLACEMENT SERVICES TO ASSIST PARTICIPANTS TO BECOME RE-EMPLOYED. A TOTAL OF 979 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED IN 2019. OF THOSE SERVED, 693 WERE EXITED COUNTING TOWARDS PERFORMANCE GOALS FOR THE YEAR, WITH 508 OF THESE COUNTED AS SUCCESSFUL EXITS FOR A PLACEMENT RATE OF 73%. PLACED INDIVIDUALS ATTAINED AN AVERAGE OF 106% OF THEIR PREVIOUS WAGE (WAGE REPLACEMENT BASED ON AVERAGE REPORTED RATE OF $31.50, HIGHER/LOWER THAN THE WAGE AT ENROLLMENT OF $29.51). THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS SERVED INCREASED BY 2.6% OVER THE NUMBER SERVED IN 2018.
THE FAMILY SERVICES PROGRAM PROVIDES EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE RELATED SERVICES TO THE 27,000 MEMBERS OF PARTICIPATING TEAMSTER LOCALS WITHIN THE TEAMSTERS JOINT COUNCIL 32. FREE CONFIDENTIAL SERVICES TO THIS GROUP INCLUDE: OUTREACH AND INFORMATION REGARDING AVAILABLE SERVICES; ADVOCACY, CASE MANAGEMENT, REFERRAL AND FOLLOW UP SERVICES; EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, AND FINANCIAL AND LEGAL COUNSELING; AS WELL AS SUBCONTRACTED PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED STAFF COVERING MENTAL HEALTH, RELATIONSHIPS, AND CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY ISSUES. IN ADDITION, FAMILY SERVICES PROVIDES INFORMATION, REFERRALS, AND SCREENING FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO PARTICIPANTS IN OUR DISLOCATED WORKER PROGRAM.OUTREACH THIS YEAR CONSISTED OF MAILINGS TO 4,400 FAMILIES, ARTICLES REACHING THE ENTIRE 27,000 MEMBERS THROUGH THE JOINT COUNCIL NEWSLETTER; AND FACE TO FACE CONTACT WITH 295 UNION STEWARDS AND OFFICERS AT TRAININGS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. UTILIZATION REPORTS ARE MAILED QUARTERLY TO PARTICIPATING LOCALS AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REPORTS ARE PROVIDED AT EACH QUARTERLY JOINT COUNCIL MEETING. IN 2019, DIRECT SERVICES WERE PROVIDED TO 393 FAMILIES, WHICH IS AN DECREASE OF 12.7% OVER 2018. 107 FAMILIES WERE REFERRED FOR SUBCONTRACTED SERVICES THROUGH NUVANTAGE EMPLOYEE RESOURCE PROGRAM , AND $19,327 IN UNITED WAY LABOR FUNDS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO MEMBERS IN NEED OF EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE.
FOR 2019, SPECIAL PROJECTS CONSISTED OF CONTRACTED CAREER COUNSELOR SERVICES TO AVIVO, A NONPROFIT SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCY, FOR A DISLOCATED WORKER PROJECT. A SUB-CONTRACTOR AGREEMENT WAS MADE WITH AVIVO TO PROVIDE THE FULL SPECTRUM OF SERVICES AS A SERVICE PROVIDER FOR THEIR DWP PROJECT WITH HENNEPIN COUNTY.
