To promote Indigenous foodways education and facilitate Indigenous food access.
Throughout 2019, North American Traditional Indigenous Food Systems (NATIFS) traveled and networked with tribal communities and others, talking about the economic and health benefits of Indigenous food enterprises. We continued our planning and search for the ideal location for the Indigenous Food Lab. Then in early 2020, the pandemic started. This crisis has made the focus of our work even more important, showcasing just how fragile our food system can be. Our work of creating access to Indigenous Foods and Indigenous Education is centered on issues of food security and community development around healthy food programs. In 2020, our work shifted to focus on distance learning and online resources, with plans to launch in-person training and programming as safety allows.
