OUTFRONT'S MISSION IS TO CREATE A STATE WHERE LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER AND QUEER (LGBTQ) PEOPLE ARE FREE TO BE WHO THEY ARE, LOVE WHO THEY LOVE, AND LIVE WITHOUT FEAR OF VIOLENCE, HARASSMENT OR DISCRIMINATION. IN OUR EFFORT TO MAKE OUR STATE A PLACE WHERE ALL PEOPLE ARE VALUED, WE ENGAGE IN COMMUNITY EDUCATION, ORGANIZING, ANTI-VIOLENCE AND LEGAL SERVICES AND POLICY ADVOCACY. THE OVERALL GOALS OF OUR WORK ARE TO: (1) STRENGTHEN THE MOVEMENT FOR LGBTQ EQUITY; (2) DEVELOP LEADERS WHO CAN ORGANIZE OTHERS TO WORK TOWARD LGBTQ LIBERATION; (3) WIN OVER THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF MINNESOTANS.
IN 2019, WE MOBILIZED OUR NETWORKS TO SUPPORT THE MENTAL HEALTH PROTECTIONS ACT, A BAN ON CONVERSION "THERAPY" IN MINNESOTA. WE BUILT A COALITION OF CONVERSION THERAPY SURVIVORS INCLUDING PARENTS, HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS, FAITH LEADERS AND PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION EXPERTS TO ADVOCATE AGAINST THIS ABUSIVE PRACTICE IN OUR STATE. WE WERE ABLE TO MOBILIZE THOUSANDS OF SUPPORTERS TO TAKE ACTION IN SUPPORT OF THE BAN. THIS WORK INCLUDED NEARLY 1000 PEOPLE PARTICIPATING IN ACTIONS AT THE CAPITOL AND OVER 28,000 PEOPLE SENDING EMAILS TO THEIR LEGISLATORS. WE PASSED THE CONVERSION THERAPY BAN THROUGH THE HOUSE WITH A 72 TO 53 VOTE. WE WERE NOT ABLE TO GET THE REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED SENATE TO TAKE UP THE BILL OR ADD THE BAN TO AN OMNIBUS HEALTH CARE BILL. WHILE THE BAN DID NOT PASS, WE WERE ABLE TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WORKING TO MAKE OUR STATE MORE AFFIRMING FOR LGBTQ PEOPLE. AN INFORMAL POLL TAKEN AT THE 2019 MINNESOTA STATE FAIR FOUND THREE QUARTERS OF MINNESOTANS SUPPORT BANNING CONVERSION THERAPY. WE WERE ALSO ABLE TO GET MINNESOTANS DISCUSSING HOW WRONG AND HARMFUL IT IS IMPOSE CONVERSION THERAPY ON LGBTQ PEOPLE. WE WORKED TO BAN CONVERSION THERAPY IN MINNEAPOLIS AND DULUTH. GOLDEN VALLEY PASSED A RESOLUTION AGAINST CONVERSION THEREAPY. THE ORGANIZING WORK TO PASS THE BANS HELPED BUILD OUR BASE IN KEY COMMUNITIES AROUND THE STATE. THROUGH OUR YOUTH, COLLEGE, TRANS, POLICY AND FAITH LEADERSHIP TEAMS, WE WORKED TO PASS GENDER INCLUSION POLICIES THROUGH LOCAL SCHOOL BOARDS AND WORKED ON A STATE LELVEL TO ENACT POLICIES TO ENACT LGBTQ EQUITY. THIS WORK INCLUDES ORGANIZING THOUSANDS OF MINNESOTANS TO WORK FOR LGBTQ INCLUSION AND EQUITY IN THEIR COMMUNITES. OVERALL, OUTFRONT STAFF AND LEADERS TRAINED OVER 7000 PEOPLE ON LGBTQ INCLUSION AND ADVOCACY.
