PARTNERS IN FOOD SOLUTIONS (PFS), A CONSORTIUM OF LEADING GLOBAL FOOD COMPANIES GENERAL MILLS, CARGILL, ROYAL DSM, BUHLER, THE HERSHEY COMPANY, ARDENT MILLS, AND THE J.M. SMUCKER COMPANY WORKS TO IMPROVE FOOD SECURITY, NUTRITION, AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA BY LINKING EMPLOYEES FROM OUR CORPORATE PARTNERS WITH SMALL-TO-MEDIUM SIZED FOOD COMPANIES IN AFRICA TO REMOTELY WORK TOGETHER ON SOLVING TECHNICAL AND BUSINESS FACING CLIENT COMPANIES. PFS HAS WORKED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TECHNOSERVE AND THE U.S. AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (USAID) TO DELIVER PROGRAMS THAT OFFER TECHNICAL BUSINESS ADVISING, MARKET LINKAGES, AND CONNECTIONS TO OUTSIDE FINANCING OPPORTUNITIES. TECHNOSERVE OFFERS IN-DEPTH COUNTRY KNOWLEDGE THAT SUPPORTS SUCCESSFUL ON-THE-GROUND PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION. USAID HELPS SHAPE AND GUIDE PFS-PARTNERED PROGRAMS BY SHARING PRIORITIES, METHODOLOGIES AND RESOURCES THROUGH A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP FORMED IN 2010. IN ADDITION TO ITS WORK WITH TECHNOSERVE AND USAID, PFS EMPLOYS SKILLED AFRICAN FIELD STAFF WHO PARTNER WITH IMPACT INVESTORS AND OTHER LOCAL ECOSYSTEM ORGANIZATIONS IN THEIR COUNTRIES TO IDENTIFY AND ASSIST AFRICAN FOOD COMPANIES AND PROVIDE TECHNICAL EXPERTISE. THESE PROGRAMS HAVE HELPED STRENGTHEN THE CAPACITY OF OVER 1,500 FOOD COMPANIES IN ETHIOPIA, KENYA, TANZANIA, UGANDA, RWANDA, MALAWI, ZAMBIA, GHANA, NIGERIA, AND COTE D'IVOIRE, IMPACTING OVER 1,300,000 LOCAL SMALLHOLDER FARMERS. CORPORATE PARTNERS HAVE PROVIDED ACCESS TO THEIR WORLD-CLASS FACILITIES AND EMPOWERED MORE THAN 1,400 OF THEIR SKILLED EMPLOYEES TO WORK ON MORE THAN 1,000 SERVICES WITH LOCAL AFRICAN FOOD COMPANIES, CONTRIBUTING MORE THAN 100,000 VOLUNTEER HOURS.
