Organizations Filed Purposes: TO ENRICH THE SKILLS, PROSPECTS AND SPIRIT OF NORTH MINNEAPOLIS YOUTH AND ADULTS, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS: THE PYC ARTS & TECH HIGH SCHOOL, A CONTRACT ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM WITH MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS, PROVIDES A DIPLOMA-BASED HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION FOR OVER 300 STUDENTS YEARLY ON THE PCYC CAMPUS IN NORTH MINNEAPOLIS AT OLIVER AND WEST BROADWAY. IN OPERATION SINCE THE EARLY 1970S, THE SCHOOL INFUSES ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY INTO THE CORE CURRICULUM AS A STRATEGY TO ENHANCE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND TEACH LIFE-LONG LEARNING SKILLS. IN ADDITION TO ACADEMIC COURSEWORK, THE SCHOOL PROVIDES WRAP-AROUND SERVICES IN THE AREAS OF SOCIAL WORK SUPPORT, AN ON-SITE ADOLESCENT HEALTH CLINIC, CAREER, COLLEGE AND VOCATIONAL PLANNING AND EXPERIENCES, SERVICE LEARNING, AND FAMILY OUTREACH. ALL ACTIVITIES ARE GUIDED BY PCYC'S STRATEGIC GOAL TO "INCREASE YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES FOR SCHOOL AND LIFE SUCCESS." KEY RESULT: THE GRADUATION RATE FOR ELIGIBLE SENIORS FOR 2020 WAS A RECORD HIGH 95% (UP FROM 82% IN 2019), DESPITE THE PANDEMIC AND THE MOVE TO DISTANCE LEARNING FORMAT.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS:56 K-5 CHILDREN WERE ENROLLED IN THE OUT-OF-SCHOOL-TIME PROGRAM (NOW NAMED BRIGHT FUTURES: K-5 ENRICHMENT AT PCYC) DURING THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR. THOUGH ALL TESTING WAS SUSPENDED WHEN SCHOOLS CLOSED IN MARCH DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, ALL ENROLLED CHILDREN WERE ENGAGED IN DISTANCE-LEARNING ACTIVITIES DURING AFTERSCHOOL HOURS AND FAMILY CONTACT WAS EXPANDED. SUMMER 2020 PROGRAMMING WAS ALSO CONDUCTED THROUGH A DISTANCE FORMAT. 22 CHILDREN RECEIVED 48 HOURS OF LIVE INSTRUCTION AND WERE OFFERED OVER 72 HOURS OF INDEPENDENT ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES OVER 6 WEEKS. BRIGHT FUTURES STAFF ALSO PLANNED AND PREPARED OVER 130 WEEKLY SUPPLY KITS AND FOOD BOXES THAT WERE DISTRIBUTED DURING THE SUMMER.

CULTURAL ARTS PROGRAMSPCYC OWNS AND OPERATES THE HISTORIC CAPRI THEATER, OFFERING CULTURAL ARTS PRESENTATIONS AND YOUTH ARTS PROGRAMMING, RENTAL SPACES AND OPPORTUNITIES, ALL WHILE SERVING AS A HUB FOR COMMUNITY EVENTS. THE CAPRI THEATER "WENT DARK" AT THE END OF MAY 2019 TO COMPLETE CONSTRUCTION ON THE EXTENSIVE RENOVATION AND EXPANSION PROJECT. AN OFFICIAL GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY WAS HELD ON OCTOBER 17, 2019. CONSTRUCTION CONTINUED THROUGH THE FISCAL YEAR, AND IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED IN THE FALL OF 2020. ARTISTIC AND YOUTH PROGRAMMING CONTINUED IN VARIOUS OTHER LOCATIONS DURING FISCAL YEAR 2019-20. SATURDAY CAMP CAPRI, MACPHAIL COMMUNITY YOUTH CHOIR AND THE FALL CAPRI GLEE SESSION WERE HELD IN THE PCYC BUILDING. SAINT PAUL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CONCERTS AND FAMILY PROGRAMS MOVED FROM THE CAPRI TO SANCTUARY COVENANT CHURCH. THE NORTHSIDE CELEBRATION, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SPCO, WAS HELD AT NORTH COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL AND THE ORDWAY. FIRST THURSDAY FILMS @ THE CAPRI MOVED TO NORTH HIGH, AND THE SPRING SESSION OF CAPRI GLEE WAS HELD VIRTUALLY VIA ZOOM.
