THE BAKKEN MUSEUM INSPIRES A PASSION FOR INNOVATION BY EXPLORING THE POTENTIAL FOR SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND THE HUMANITIES TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.
TO INSPIRE A PASSION FOR INNOVATION
EXHIBITS AND COLLECTIONS: THE BAKKEN MUSEUM IS PROUD TO HOUSE A VARIETY OF ARTIFACTS, 19TH-CENTURY MEDICAL DEVICES, AND EARLY MODERN ANATOMY BOOKS. THE COLLECTION REFLECTS EARL BAKKEN'S BELIEF IN THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDYING HISTORY, SELF-INQUIRY, AND EXPERIMENTATION. THE BAKKEN'S CHANGING EXHIBITS UTILIZE THE HISTORICAL COLLECTION AND HANDS-ON DISPLAYS TO EDUCATE AND INSPIRE VISITORS.
SCHOOL AND YOUTH PROGRAMS: THE BAKKEN MUSEUM'S SCHOOL AND YOUTH PROGRAMS EXPLORE SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH (STEM) AS AN ONGOING SOCIAL PROCESS OF INQUIRY, EXPERIMENTATION, CREATIVE THINKING AND REASONED DEBATE. THE CURRICULUM IS TAUGHT USING A PEDAGOGY THAT FACILITATES THE USE OF EVIDENCE, JUDGMENT, CREATIVITY, AND LOGIC. FOR THE BAKKEN, THIS REFLECTS A FULL APPRECIATION OF WHAT EVERY YOUNG LEARNER BRINGS TO HIS OR HER LEARNING EXPERIENCE: CURIOSITY, CREATIVITY, AND THEIR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES. AN APPRECIATION FOR THE POWER OF INDIVIDUAL CREATIVITY AND INSPIRATION IS INTEGRAL TO THE BAKKEN YOUTH PROGRAMS. THE BAKKEN'S INFLUENCE STRETCHES FAR BEYOND ITS WALLS, BRINGING A WIDE VARIETY OF OUTREACH PROGRAMS TO SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES AND COMMUNITY CENTERS, MAKING STEM EDUCATION PROGRAMS ACCESSIBLE TO A DIVERSE AUDIENCE.
PUBLIC PROGRAMS: THE BAKKEN MUSEUM ENHANCES THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR CHILDREN, FAMILIES AND ADULTS VISITING THE MUSEUM. FROM HANDS-ON FAMILY DAYS TO THOUGHTFUL LECTURES AND ADULT ONLY EVENTS, THE BAKKEN'S SPECIAL PROGRAMMING PROVIDES DYNAMIC OPPORTUNITIES FOR VISITORS TO EXPERIENCE THE MUSEUM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
