THE TWIN CITIES SOCIAL COHESION INITIATIVE SEEKS TO CREATE A RESERVOIR OF TRUST, GOOD WILL AND RESILIENCE, SO AS TO MEET THE PRACTICAL CHALLENGES OF LIVING TOGETHER WITH MUTUAL RESPECT AND SHARED RESPONSIBILITY.
SEAT AT THE TABLE - THROUGH MORE THAN 100 APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY INTERVIEWS AS WELL AS SECTOR AND CROSS SECTOR ROUNDTABLES, TCSCI ENGAGED MINNESOTANS EXPERIENCING HOUSING INSECURITY AS WELL AS GOVERNMENT, PRIVATE AND NONPROFIT ADVOCATES, DEVELOPERS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS. A CONSISTENT THEM EMERGED AROUND THE CHALLENGE OF ENGAGING IMPACTED/SERVED PERSONS IN THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS. IN RESPONSE TCSCI DEVELOPED A METHODOLOGY FOR WORKING WITH ORGANIZATIONS TO DEVELOP A SHARED AND RESPONSIVE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS. HUMANIZING THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS - SIMILARLY, AS TCSCI ENGAGED LEGISLATORS, MAYORS AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS AROUND HOUSING ISSUES, THE THEME OF DISCONNECTION FROM THOSE MOST IMPACTED BY POLICIES OR LEGISLATION EMERGED. TCSCI BEGAN A BROADER SERIES OF APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY INTERVIEWS WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS AND HAS DEVELOPED A METHODOLOGY FOR ENGAGING IMPACTED PERSONS. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT IN THE WILDFIRE CONGREGATIONAL COLLABORATIVE - TCSCI WORKED WITH EIGHT LUTHERAN CONGREGATIONS IN THE GEOGRAPHICAL AREA OF THE ROBBINSDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO DEVELOP A NEW COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PLAN. TCSCI TRAINED FIFTY LAY PEOPLE TO CONDUCT MORE THAN 100 APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY INTERVIEWS WITH LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS AS WELL AS LEADERS FROM EDUCATION, BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. TCSCI CONDUCTED EDUCATIONAL FORUMS IN ALL EIGHT CONGREGATIONS AROUND MODELS OF FAITH INFORMED COMMUNITY ORGANIZING AND ENGAGEMENT. TCSCI WORKED WITH PASTORS AND COUNCIL LEADERS FROM THESE CONGREGATIONS TO BUILD A COMMON VISION TO CREATE A SHARED COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM AND HIRE AN ORGANIZER TOGETHER. ENVISION MINNEAPOLIS - TCSCI WORKED WITH TWELVE CHRISTIAN, JEWISH, MUSLIM AND UNITARIAN FAITH LEADERS IN MINNEAPOLIS CONGREGATIONS TO DEVELOP A LISTENING AND VISIONING CAMPAIGN IN THE CITY OF MINNEAPOLIS. THROUGH EDUCATIONAL FORUMS AND APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY INTERVIEWS, TCSCI BUILT CONSENSUS AMONG THESE CONGREGATIONS TO RECRUIT AND TRAIN LEADERS FOR A CAMPAIGN IN 2020. YOUTH AND SOCIAL MEDIA - TCSCI CONDUCTED 30 APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY INTERVIEWS WITH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOL LEADERS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE LEVEL TO ASSESS INTEREST IN A YOUTH LED CAMPAIGN TO DEVELOP HEALTHY NORMS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA. IN LATE 2019 TCSCI DESIGNED A TWO YEAR CAMPAIGN AND HIRED STAFF TO BEGIN THE WORK IN JANUARY 2020. WILLMAR/SOCIAL COHESION IN A RURAL CONTEXT - WILLMAR HAS BEEN ONE OF THE RURAL COMMUNITIES TARGETED FOR ANTI-MUSLIM AND ANTI-IMMIGRANT HATE ACTIVITY. IN RESPONSE, TCSCI CONDUCTED 20 APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY INTERVIEWS WITH FAITH AND COMMUNITY LEADERS IN WILLMAR TO ASSESS THE STATE OF SOCIAL COHESION WORK AND THE POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITIES FOR NEW COLLABORATIONS. IN EARLY 2020, TCSCI WILL WORK WITH LOCAL LEADERS TO FINALIZE A THREE YEAR PROPOSAL FOR SOCIAL COHESION WORK AND SEEK FUNDING.
