TO ELIMINATE POVERTY BY EMPOWERING FAMILIES AND ENGAGING COMMUNITIES.
THE ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT DIVISION SUPPORTS INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN THEIR GOALS OF ACHIEVING EMPLOYMENT, NUTRITIONAL, MEDICAL AND ECONOMIC SECURITY. ALL PROGRAMS WORK TOGETHER TO PROVIDE HOLISTIC SUPPORT TO FAMILIES. IN 2019, THE ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT DIVISION PROGRAMS ADDED THE RURAL ROUTES TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES DOOR TO DOOR TRANSPORTATION TO SENIORS ACROSS RURAL CLAY COUNTY. IN ADDITION, LAST YEAR THE PROGRAMS ASSISTED 569 PEOPLE ACCESS AFFORDABLE HEALTH INSURANCE, PROVIDED TAX ASSISTANCE TO 788 HOUSEHOLDS, AND ASSISTED 106 PEOPLE TO OBTAIN EMPLOYMENT.
THE HEAD START DIVISION OFFERS COMPREHENSIVE EARLY CHILDHOOD SERVICES TO CHILDREN AGES BIRTH-5 AND FAMILIES WITH LIMITED INCOME AND FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS THAT RESIDE WITHIN CLAY AND WILKIN COUNTIES. LAST YEAR THE LAKES & PRAIRIES HEAD START PROGRAM CONVERTED 2 ADDITIONAL CLASSROOMS INTO FULL DAY/FULL YEAR SERVICE MODEL IN AN EFFORT TO PROVIDE THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES TO CHILDREN PREPARING FOR KINDERGARTEN. IN 2019, THE HEAD START PROGRAM PROVIDED SERVICES TO 320 CHILDREN.
THE HOUSING DIVISION PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS OR ARE PRECARIOUSLY HOUSED. LAST YEAR, CAPLP HOUSING PROGRAMS EXPANDED TO INCLUDE THE HOMEWORK STARTS AT HOME PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES STABLE HOUSING TO CHILDREN EXPERIENCING HOUSING INSECURITIES AND ADDED THE SOAR PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO HOUSEHOLDS IN ACCESSING SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY BENEFITS. IN 2019, CAPLP HOUSING PROGRAMS ASSISTED 268 FORMERLY HOMELESS HOUSEHOLDS IN OBTAINING SAFE AFFORDABLE HOUSING.
