THE NORTHFIELD AREA FAMILY YMCA BUILDS STRONG KIDS, STRONG FAMILIES AND STRONG COMMUNITITIES BY SUPPORTING YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, HEALTHY LIVING AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.
HEALTHY LIVING: THE Y IS THE LARGEST PROVIDER OF HEALTH AND WELL-BEING PROGRAMS IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE FACILITATE PROGRAMS THAT IMPROVE COMMUNITY HEALTH AND SAFETY FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES. WE PROVIDED PERSONAL TRAINING SESSIONS (VIRTUAL AND IN PERSON), GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES (VIRTUAL AND IN PERSON) AND SPECIALTY CLASSES TO ADULT AND YOUTH. HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROGRAMS SUPPORTED OVER 4,500 INDIVIDUALS THRU IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL OFFERINGS. OVER 500 WELLNESS CHECKS WERE CONDUCTED TO MEMBERS AND PARTICIPANT, TO CONNECT THEM TO RESOURCES DURING THE PANDEMIC.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: OUR PROGRAMS NURTURE THE POTENTIAL OF ALL YOUTH AND TEENS. WE CREATE PROGRAMMING THAT RESPONDS TO THE EMERGING OPPORTUNITIES TO BETTER SERVE YOUTH IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE OFFER SUPPORT, EMPOWERMENT, EXPECTATION AND CONSTRUCTIVE USE OF TIME. WE FOSTER A COMMITMENT TO LEARNING, POSITIVE VALUES, SOCIAL COMPETENCIES AND SELF CONFIDENCE TO INSPIRE FUTURE SUCCESS FOR ALL OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. 600 KIDS PARTICIPATED IN SWIM LESSONS, SUMMER CAMP PROGRAMS, YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT, YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS, CHILD WATCH, HOMEWORK HELP AND CHILDCARE PROGRAMS. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, THE YMCA ALSO SUPPORTED EMERGENCY CHILDCARE FOR ESSENTIAL WORKERS AND HOMEWORK HELP TO YOUTH IN COMMUNITY. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL NON-PROFITS THE YMCA HAS ESTABLISHED A TRANSPORTATION CO-OP THAT PROVIDES TRANSPORTATION TO LOCAL NON-PROFIT GROUPS SERVING YOUTH TO ENSURE TRANSPORTATION BARRIERS ARE REMOVED AND YOUTH CAN PARTICIPATE IN LIFE-CHANGING PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: THE Y HELPS FAMILIES BUILD BONDS, CONNECT WITH COMMUNITY RESOURCES, AND BECOME STRONGER TOGETHER. WE GIVE BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY AND SUPPORT OUR NEIGHBORS. EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT THE Y. ALL PROGRAMS, SERVICES AND MEMBERSHIP ARE AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, MADE POSSIBLE BY DONATIONS FROM COMMUNITY MEMBERS ENSURES EVERYONE IS GIVEN EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE LIFE-CHANGING PROGRAMS OF THE YMCA AND THE CHANCE TO LEARN, GROW AND THRIVE. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED TO 300 INDIVIDUALS. DURING THE PANDEMIC THE Y RESPONDED AS A COMMUNITY RESOURCE HUB AND PARTNERED WITH 30+ LOCAL COMMUNITY NON-PROFITS TO ADDRESS MULTIPLE COMMUNITY NEEDS. PROGRAMS AND SERVICES INCLUDED: FOOD DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM LAUNCH, HOMEWORK HELP FOR YOUTH IN COMMUNITY, EMERGENCY CHILDCARE FOR ESSENTIAL WORKERS, VIRTUAL PROGRAM OFFERING FOR ADULTS AND YOUTH FREE OF CHARGE, HEALTH AND WELLNESS CHECK IN CALLS, BLOOD DRIVE, ESSENTIAL FOOD AND SUPPLY DRIVE FOR THE COMMUNITIES IN MINNEAPOLIS IMPACTED BY THE RACIAL INJUSTICE.
