Organizations Filed Purposes:
Systematically test individual test cows' milk production , components and management events; in order to yield information to universities for research to improve dairy herd management.
Provide systematic collection of data from members dairy herds for analysis and research to help improve members dairy management
Four Field Representatives collected milk weights and milk samples from each of 11,700 cows, in 45 members' herds, on mostly a monthly interval. Individual cow mangement events were keyed into computer programs. Each milk sample was analyzed for butterfat and protein con- tent, for somatic cell counts, for pregnancy verification , and for mastitis species identification as members requested. The compiled data was presented to universities for research and for the sire prov- -ing program. Both uses of the information benefit dairy producers world wide. the use of DHIA records aided Winona county DHIA members to produce an average of 23,777 pounds of milk, 943 pounds of butter- fat, and 748 pounds of milk protein per cow during 2020.
