THE FOUNDATION IS THE CHARITABLE ARM OF HOUSING FIRST MINNESOTA. ITS MISSION IS TO PROVIDE SAFE, DURABLE, AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR MINNESOTA'S HOMELESS, VETERANS AND OTHERS IN NEED. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY PARTNERING WITH LOCAL SERVICE PROVIDERS AND BUILDING PROFESSIONALS TO BUILD NEW HOMES AND REHABILITATE EXISTING HOUSING.
TO WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHERS TO PROVIDE SAFE, DURABLE, AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR MINNESOTA'S HOMELESS, VETERANS AND OTHERS IN NEED. AS THE CHARITABLE ARM OF BATC-HOUSING FIRST MINNESOTA, THE FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH LOCAL HOMELESS SERVICE PROVIDERS AND TAPS THE TALENTS AND RESOURCES OF THE ASSOCIATION'S MEMBER BUILDERS, REMODELERS, SUPPLIERS, AND VOLUNTEERS TO BUILD NEW OR RENOVATE EXISTING TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FACILITIES FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS.
HEARTS IN HOUSING: IN 2019 HOUSING FIRST MINNESOTA FOUNDATION PARTICIPATED IN TWO COMMUNITY BUILD PROJECTS TO PROVIDE HOUSING FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS. ON LAND SECURED FROM THE CITY OF BLOOMINGTON HRA, FOUNDATION BUILD PARTNER, LENNAR, CONSTRUCTED A BRAND NEW HOME TO PROVIDE A DIGNIFIED PLACE TO LIVE FOR VETERANS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS. THE MINNESOTA ASSISTANCE COUNCIL FOR VETERANS (MACV) OWNS THIS NEW FOUR-BEDROOM RESIDENCE AND PROVIDES VETERANS WITH CASE MANAGEMENT, EMPLOYMENT AND LEGAL SERVICES TO HELP THEM REGAIN CONFIDENCE AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY. THE FOUNDATION ALSO PARTNERED WITH BUILD PARTNERS MEGA REMODEL AND CARDINAL REMODELING TO RENOVATE A BASEMENT APARTMENT UNIT FOR AVIVO, AN ORGANIZATION THAT PAIRS HOUSING WITH OUTPATIENT CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY TREATMENT WHERE MOTHERS CAN LIVE WITH THEIR CHILDREN WHILE ACHIEVING LASTING RECOVERY. THIS IS THE NINTH APARTMENT THE FOUNDATION HAS RENOVATED FOR AVIVO. THIS ONE-BEDROOM UNIT WAS FULLY REMODELED INTO TWO-BEDROOMS WITH AN UPDATED BATHROOM, KITCHEN, LIGHTING, FLOORING, TRIM, AND PAINT. THE SPACE WILL NOW SERVE AS HOME TO MOTHERS AND CHILDREN AS THEY RECOVER AND MOVE TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY.THESE PROJECTS PROVIDED 4,450 SQUARE FEET OF TRANSITIONAL HOUSING IN THE COMMUNITY. WITH PARTICIPATION OF BUILD PARTNERS, TRADE PARTNERS AND FUNDING FROM THE FOUNDATION $320,000 OF THE CONSTRUCTION COST WAS DONATED PROVIDING PROJECTS VALUED AT $420,000 AT A FRACTION OF THE COST TO THE RECIPIENT SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS.
SCHOLARSHIPS: THIS YEAR, WE ARE HONORED TO AWARD $19,467 TO 12 DESERVING SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS TO HELP FURTHER THEIR EDUCATION AND CAREER GOALS WITHIN THE RESIDENTIAL HOMEBUILDING INDUSTRY INCLUDING CARPENTRY, HVAC, ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, AND OTHER TRADES. OUR GOALS ARE TO PROMOTE CONSTRUCTION-RELATED TRADES AS A VIABLE CAREER OPTION AND ATTRACT NEW TALENT INTO THE HOMEBUILDING INDUSTRY. WITH A MIX OF BACKGROUNDS AND INTERESTS IN THE TRADES, THESE 12 DEDICATED STUDENTS ARE SHOWING HOW BRIGHT AND PROMISING THE FUTURE IS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY.$19,467 IN SCHOLARSHIPS PROVIDED TO 12 STUDENTS ATTENDING 9 COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES
