Organizations Filed Purposes:
To promote students with personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education, focusing on the multiple roles of family members, wage earners and community leaders, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
Leadership Conferences were planned and carried out by MN FCCLA which included the State Conference with 1100 attendees, Five Regional Area Conferences and a national Conference delegation of 185 delegates in July. Accomplishments included student leaders as officers developing applied academic knowledge, skills and achievements for the purposes of the organization for character development, career exploration and leadership development.
Youth Development activities planned by the State Youth Council with quarterly meetings and a Shadow Day for legislative career shadowing, learning civic engagement skills. Youth leaders learn to take responsibility, give service and develop personal skills through their roles as a state, region or local officer of an FCCLA Chapter. Training involves peer education to teach other teens about safety, leadership and giving service.
Competitive Events- MN FCCLA conducted competitions for applied learning for over 3000 participants and 100 competitive events at a regional and state level. The contests called STAR Events ( Students Taking Action with Recognition) develop speaking skills, planning, and teamwork skills. Students show what they know using time wisely, working with teams, speaking to adults, advocating for issues they care about. The STAR Events program is the most popular program area of FCCLA. MN FCCLA provides business and industry involvement as evaluators. Students receive medals, trophies and certificates.
