SCMSA IS A NEW PUBLIC STEM-BASED CHARTER SCHOOL THAT OPENED IN 2014. DURING THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR, WE SERVED 196 STUDENTS IN GRADES K-5. WE BELIEVE IN HANDS-ON STEM LEARNING AT OUR SCHOOL. IN ALL OF OUR CROSS CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES THE STUDENTS WILL BE DOING HANDS-ON MINDS-ON LEARNING. THEY WILL BE CREATING AND LEARNING BY DOING PROJECTS. STUDENTS WILL BE USING CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS BY USING THEIR OWN CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION. BY HAVING THE STUDENTS LEARN THROUGH THEIR OWN CREATIVITY THIS WILL DRIVE INTRINSIC AND EXTRINSIC LEARNING. WITH A MAXIMUM ENROLLMENT OF 216 STUDENTS WE ARE ABLE TO MAINTAIN SMALL CLASS SIZES OF 15-20 STUDENTS PER CLASS. SCMSA USES A BALANCED ACADEMIC PROGRAM THAT IS UNIQUE TO OUR STUDENTS AND ALIGNED WITH MINNESOTA STATE STANDARDS TO TEACH READING, MATH, SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES. INCLUDED IN THIS PROGRAM ARE COMPONENTS FOR GUIDED READING, READ ALOUD, SHARED READING, AND INDEPENDENT READING.
