COFHED'S MISSION IS TO PARTNER WITH MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES IN THE MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHERN HAITI TO ASSIST THEM IN DISCOVERING, CREATING, AND REALIZING THEIR OWN VISION OF SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR LASTING TRANSFORMATION.
COMMUNITY HEALTHTHE LOUGOU COMMUNITY OPERATES ITS OWN HEALTH CLINIC AND THE RAYMOND COMMUNITY IS SUPPORTED BY A COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE. A TOTAL OF 1,438 PEOPLE WERE SEEN BY A HEALTH PROFESSIONAL. THE NURSES FOLLOWED FOR HEALTH ASSESSMENT ALL 509 STUDENTS ATTENDING SCHOOL IN LOUGOU AND RAYMOND. SEVENTEEN (17) HEALTHY BIRTH DELIVERIES TOOK PLACE IN LOUGOU AND 138 WOMEN FOLLOWED A BIRTH CONTROL PLAN. TWO HUNDRED ELEVEN (211) KIDS WERE TREATED FOR VARIOUS SKIN INFECTIONS, OF WHOM 190 WERE COMPLETELY HEALED.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION COFHED PARTNERS WITH RAYMOND AND LOUGOU COMMUNITIES IN EDUCATION INITIATIVES FROM PRESCHOOL TO 12TH GRADE. A TOTAL OF 509 STUDENTS ATTENDED SCHOOL IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2019-2020. STUDENTS ARE SUPPORTED WITH HOT LUNCHES FOR MUCH NEEDED STAMINA FOR LEARNING. COFHED CONTINUES TO SPONSOR HIGHER EDUCATION TRAINING FOR 7 EMERGING YOUNG LEADERS FROM LOUGOU STUDYING NURSING AND ELEMENTARY EDUCATION. COMPLETION OF A NEW KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL BUILDING IS ANOTHER HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR FOR THE LOUGOU COMMUNITY.
COMMUNITY INCOME GENERATION THE LOUGOU COMMUNITY MICROCREDIT PROGRAM, WHICH IS MANAGED LOCALLY BY MOFADEL, EXPERIENCED SOME DIFFICULT TIMES DUE TO SOCIOPOLITICAL UNREST WHICH RAVAGED HAITI DURING THE LAST 3 MONTHS OF 2019. THE SLOWDOWN IN ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES WAS EXACERBATED BY THE SPREAD OF COVID-19, WHICH DAMAGED THE COUNTRY MUCH FURTHER BY A FULL HALT OF BUSINESS IN MARCH 2020. WITH THE LIFTING OF GOVERNMENT-IMPOSED RESTRICTIONS, MOFADEL'S ACTIVITIES HAVE FULLY RESUMED, ESPECIALLY INTERVIEWING NEW APPLICANTS FOR NEW LOANS. MOFADEL HAS CURRENTLY 253 MEMBERS OF WHOM 175 ARE WOMEN, 58 MEN AND 20 LOCAL ASSOCIATIONS.
