Organizations Filed Purposes: To develop and advocate for public policy that makes Minnesota's economy more prosperous and fair for all Minnesotans.

ALANA Community Brain Trust: Since June 2020, we have engaged with the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, Minnesota's Congressional Delegation, the SBA, DEED, the Governor's Office and most recently our recommendations (Minnesota Solutions) were integrated into the report of the Minnesota House Select Committee on Racial Justice. Our policy advocacy for dedicated funding for ALANA businesses and ALANA CDFIs and microlenders is also reflected in the recent changes to the PPP program approved by Congress and the organizing of a banking alliance here to help ethnic and minority owned businesses gain more technical assistance and success in the PPP loan process. Brain Trust members testified in October to the House Select Committee on Racial Justice, which issued their report (December 2020) with recommendations to dismantle systemic racism. The report includes several of the recommendations from the Minnesota Solution document (see below), which Brain Trust co-founder Dr. Bruce Corrie created based on earlier recommendations in the Minnesota Equity Blueprint and his own work on the Economic Costs of Racism. (The Brain Trust purchased IMPLAN software to aid in Dr. Corrie's analysis). A Better Community Impact (ABCI) Fellowship Project. (October 2020 to current day) In October 2020, Growth & Justice was awarded as fiscal agent and co-lead with our MN Equity Blueprint partner, OneMN.org, and the ALANA Community Brain Trust, a $168,000 MN Dept of Public Safety grant from federal CARES Act COVID short-term relief funds. The grant funded "A Better Community Impact Fellowship" project for nearly 200 Minnesota BIPOC & low-income youth & youth leaders, ages 14-24, in the Twin Cities area, with a cohort of students as well from five Central Minnesota small towns in conjunction with the Upward Bound and TRIO programs at Central Lakes College in Brainerd. The Minnesota Equity Blueprint (February 2020): After a two-year development, research, and community engagement process, the Minnesota Equity Blueprint was unveiled February 26, 2020, just weeks before the COVID-19 lockdown. The MEB is a comprehensive, non-partisan, long-term plan for shared prosperity in a healthier environment co-created by organizations and community members (the Thriving by Design - Rural & Urban Together Network) across Minnesota, co-facilitated by Growth & Justice and OneMN.org. It reflects the interconnectedness of our state's people and regions, as well as interconnectedness between the disparities, challenges, and solutions that shape our future. It is not just for the Legislature or governmental decision-makers but is also a resource for individual and local community action. Story boxes throughout the document chronicle regional best practices and inspiring efforts to build a more equitable and inclusive economy.
