Organizations Filed Purposes: VISION: We envision a thriving community with a heightened Hmong consciousness. MISSION: The Hmong Museum exists to recognize and acknowledge the intersections of all things Hmong.

Hmong Museum offers programs aimed at raising Hmong consciousness that reimagine elders' roles and how they pass on knowledge, bring families together in spaces that never existed before for the Hmong community, and teach the community of Hmong history, art, and culture. Intergenerational exchange is at the heart of these programs including interviews of elders through innovative digital storytelling, capturing oral storytelling through videography and collaboration between Hmong American artists and elders, and through workshops that continue the tradition of paj ntaub flower cloth making. Hmong Museum successfully hosted 10 workshops with an average of 7 attendees to learn basic cross stitching and applique skills. The instructor also taught advance courses Monday's and Wednesdays for students who wants to learn more challenging items such as converting their flower cloth into clothing. There is a total of 20 classes and 31 students whom attended the advance courses.

Arts, culture and history will be interwoven into every facet of community life. This project lies at the intersection of arts, culture and history by using the art of Digital Stories to collect stories that are culturally relevant to Hmong and Minnesota's histories. The significant outcomes of this event are at three levels. The first level is with the students who worked with a teaching artist to learn the art of digital storytelling. The students had never used a video camera before and many of them learned how to interview elders for the first time. The second layer of this were the SGU veterans who participated. They opened their homes and personal stories and experiences to the students to be interviewed, video recorded, then edited, and finally publicly shared. The vulnerability of the veterans manifested in intense discussions about how they want to be presented in the videos. Sometimes, the creative vision of the students were on different focus of the stories than what the veterans felt were important. The third layer of the outcomes were at the public events where audience members viewed the films and listened to the panel of students and veterans. The film showings were at SGU Veteran Families office, University of Minnesota, and Springbox. A bonus event took place at Mankato State University's Asian American Night event. Each event reached different audiences: U of MN and Mankato State University showings reached student audiences who were predominantly Hmong or Asian. The SGU event reached SGU families and students' families who were all Hmong. And the Springbox event reached more young adult/young professionals in the community where about two-thirds of the audience were Hmong and audience members had a wide range of ages from 15 to older than 65. All events reached individuals in the community who learned a new story about Hmong history and Hmong American immigrant experiences through the films. MN State University Mankato hosted an event to showcase the program and provided a fee of $500 to Hmong Museum.

There's a gap between those whose histories and narratives are not in the mainstream - those with unfamiliar stories - and the resources available in history communities. The unfamiliar stories action team is identifying places and people where these stories exist and sharing this knowledge with the wider history community. The team is also exploring the wants and needs of communities. Hmong Museum worked with the Native Americans, Somali, and Hmong communities and hosted focus groups and hosted events to learn more about the narratives of each group. Information taken from the focus groups and events will be used for outstate school districts working to meet state social studies standards.
