Organizations Filed Purposes: MISSISSIPPI PARK CONNECTION STRENGTHENS THE ENDURING CONNECTION BETWEEN PEOPLE AND THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER BY ENRICHING THE LIFE OF THE RIVER AND THE LIVES OF ALL WHO EXPERIENCE OUR NATIONAL PARK, THE MISSISSIPPI NATIONAL RIVER AND RECREATION AREA.

YOUTH EDUCATION:-IN 20182019, MPC HELPED THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE TO REACH 22,683 STUDENTS. TO DO THIS, WE HIRED A NEW EDUCATION COORDINATOR, WHO IS MANAGING OUR RIVER EDUCATOR PROGRAM. WE HAVE HIRED 6 RIVER EDUCATORS WHO WORK ON A PER DIEM BASIS TO SUPPORT YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS.-WE HIRED THREE MISSISSIPPI RIVER EDUCATION FELLOWS (COLLEGE AGED INTERNS OF COLOR) TO WORK ON CANOEMOBILE AND OTHER RELATED ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:-CONTINUED OUR PUBLIC CAMPAIGN SURROUNDING OUR EMERALD ASH BORER WORK TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE THREATS FROM INVASIVE PLANTS, INSECTS AND CLIMATE CHANGE ON THE URBAN FOREST ON THE CORRIDOR. WE HAVE NOW PLANTED 6,500 TREES OUT OF OUR TOTAL GOAL OF 15,000.-WE ARE NOW IN OUR SECOND YEAR OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER CREW (16 YOUTH AND 4 YOUNG ADULT CREW MEMBERS) AND VOLUNTEER GROUPS. WE HAVE HIRED, IN TOTAL 46 YOUTH AND 8 YOUNG ADULTS OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS TO MANAGE INVASIVE SPECIES IN THE UNDERSTORY FORESTS ALONG THE RIVER AND PLANT AND MAINTAIN TREES.-CONTINUED TO OVERSEE THE GRAVEL BED NURSERY PROGRAMS, INCLUDING THE SUPERVISION OF A GREENCORPS MEMBER. IN TOTAL, WE HAVE INSTALLED 7 GRAVEL BED NURSERIES THAT WE ARE MAINTAINING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PROGRAM PARTNERS LIKE THE SCIENCE MUSEUM OF MN AND THE RAPTOR CENTER.-WE HIRED A CONSULTANT AND DELIVERED A CORRIDORWIDE FOREST MANAGEMENT PLAN. THIS PLAN WAS PRESENTED TO PROGRAM PARTNERS DURING A WEBINAR IN THE FALL OF 2018 AND USED TO INFORM MANAGEMENT DECISION DURING OUR WINTER 2019 PARTNER WORKSHOP TO PLAN FOR FUTURE HABITAT RESTORATION IN THE NATIONAL PARK.-PLANNING FOR THE COLDWATER SPRING UNIT MANAGEMENT PLAN HAS BEEN DELAYED DUE TO THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN IN JANUARY, HOWEVER, WE ARE CONTINUING TO WORK WITH THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE TO SUPPORT CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT THROUGH THE PROCESS.

RIVER EXPERIENCES FOR ALL:-WE HIRED 3 VISITOR SERVICE SPECIALISTS THAT SERVED 18,015 PEOPLE AT UPPER SAINT ANTHONY FALLS LOCK AND DAM (MEMORIAL DAY-END OF SEPTEMBER).-COHOSTED ILLUMINATE THE LOCK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NORTHERN.LIGHTS.MN AND THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE, ENGAGING ARTISTS MIKE HOYT, DAMEUN STRANGE, MOLLY VAN AVERY AND RITIKA GANGULY AND CREATED A UNIQUE PLACEMAKING EXPERIENCE AT THE UPPER ST. ANTHONY FALLS LOCK AND DAM.-COHOSTED MURDER ON THE MISSISSIPPI PROGRAM WITH FEARLESS COMEDY PRODUCTIONS AND THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE TO DRAW AWARENESS TO THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. EACH OF OUR PERFORMANCES SOLD OUT WITH A CAPACITY OF 150 PEOPLE/PERFORMANCE.-LAST YEAR, 4,364 VOLUNTEERS SUPPORTED OUR NATIONAL PARK.-PUBLISHED TWO SEASONAL NEWSLETTERS HIGHLIGHTING THE PARK AND EVENTS (WINTER AND SUMMER).-ENGAGED MORE THAN 40,000 PEOPLE THROUGH SPECIAL TRAININGS, EVENTS, AND TOURS ON THE RIVER.
