Organizations Filed Purposes:
Rondo Center of Diverse Expression (RCODE), along with the Rondo Commemorative Plaza (RCP), has the mission to continue the efforts to rekindle the spirit of Rondo and the preservation of those values that sustained Rondo through the devastation of its community.
The Rondo Commemorative Plaza is a space for contemplation, education and inspiration. Through a mixture of landscaping and interpretive elements, plaza visitors will explore some of the major events in the history of the Rondo neighborhood will remind visitors of the healing power of reconciliation among the people of Rondo and the government agencies involved in the destruction of their community. It will serve to demonstrate how we have the power to reshape our city so that is welcoming, inclusive, connected, creative, healthy and productive now and for the future that lies ahead. Visitors - whether attracted by an event or by the uniqueness of the created space - come to the RCP to learn, remember and feel a personal connection to the experiences and stories of Rondo that inspire their potential and engenders a desire to build community together.
One of the most effective of the plaza's assets for achieving these goals in 2019 was the RCP's Music, Health and Wellness Summer Series - 37 events spread over three months from June to August providing plaza visitors with a variety of information, arts and culture reflecting big ideas, topics and relevant themes of the Rondo community.
RCODE's mission is to build upon the successes of exhibits, History Walk and the Summer Music, Wellness and Health Series and grow the RCP to reflect two key components: (1) the history and perspective of the Rondo Community and (2) the diversity and cultures of the new Rondo as represented by the Karen, Hmong, Oromo and Somali communities.
