More equitable, environmentally friendly and healthy transportation.
Policy & Law Transit for Livable Communities uses many strategies to change policy and law toward a transportation system that is more affordable, accessible with better health and environmental outcomes. In 2016, TLC continues to co-chair the transportation forward campaign, a statewide multimodal legislative transportation funding campaign. Our work in policy and law also includes holding the transit seat on the transportation advisory board of the metropolitan council, which allocates flexible federal transportation funds. TLC works for other policy changes related to transportation at the state legislature as well the city and county level. We are members of transportation for America and participate in efforts to secure more funding for transit, bicycling, and walking at the federal level.
Rethinking Transportation:TLC's works to help individuals and institutions rethink transportation. One specific program, transportation options, works with social service and workforce organizations to addresses the ways that transportation is a barrier to accessing jobs, education, services and to full participation in the community.
Projects and Corridors: TLC's projects and corridors programming focuses on specific transit way projects, proposals to expand bus service, bicycle or pedestrian projects, and on particular transportation corridors that need attention because they are unsafe for all users. TLC works in the emerging transit ready corridors to focus on developing transit trips from driving to safe transit, biking and walking routes. This work focuses on securing short term transit wins and building long term community advocates.
