OUR VISION IS TO REDEFINE THE WAY OUR NATION IS TAUGHT, ONE STUDENT, ONE TEACHER AND ONE SCHOOL AT A TIME. GA IS A SCHOOL SERVING STUDENTS WITH STRONG ABILITY ALONG WITH DYSLEXIA, ADHD AND OTHER EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING CHALLENGES. TO MEET THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN NOT ATTENDING GA SCHOOL, GA EXPANDED ITS OFFERINGS BY CREATING THE LEARNING CENTER (LC) AT GROVES ACADEMY. THE LC SUPPORTS FAMILIES AND SCHOOLS IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE DELIVERY OF SPECIALIZED SERVICES FOR STUDENTS DIAGNOSED WITH A RANGE OF LEARNING DISABILITIES. IN 2016, GA DETERMINED ITS NEXT EXPANSION WOULD BE TO BECOME A CATALYST FOR SYSTEMS CHANGE IN LITERACY INSTRUCTION. THE INSTITUTE FOR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING (IPL) WAS ESTABLISHED TO SHARE GA'S PROVEN GROVES LITERACY FRAMEWORK WITH TEACHERS AND SCHOOLS IN THE COMMUNITY COMMITTED TO ENSURING THE CHILDREN THEY SERVE ARE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO REACH THEIR READING POTENTIAL.
WE BUILD CONFIDENCE, SUCCESS, AND PURPOSE THROUGH TRANSFORMATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCES.
GA'S SCHOOL SERVES STUDENTS IN GRADES ONE-12 WITH DYSLEXIA, ADHD OR OTHER EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING CHALLENGES. STUDENTS ARE GROUPED INTO SMALL CLASSES, METHODS AND MATERIALS ARE GEARED TOWARD INDIVIDUAL NEEDS, AND STUDENTS ARE ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN LEARNING THROUGH MULTI-SENSORY INSTRUCTION. ALL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN DAILY INSTRUCTION IN READING, SPELLING, WRITTEN EXPRESSION, MATH, SOCIAL STUDIES AND SCIENCE. ENRICHMENT OPTIONS INCLUDE PHYSICAL EDUCATION, ART, MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS. CURRICULUM IS EVIDENCE-BASED AND DESIGNED TO SUPPORT EACH STUDENT'S STRONG CAPABILTY TO LEARN WHILE PROVIDING FLEXIBILITY IN HOW THEY LEARN. A CORE COMPONENT OF THE CURRICULUM IS HOW STUDENTS LEARN TO READ. GA'S SCHOOL SUCCESSFULLY INCORPORATES OVER 50 YEARS OF PROVEN ACADEMIC RESEARCH IN ITS LITERACY INSTRUCTION WITH ITS STUDENTS TYPICALLY GAINING OVER TWO YEARS OF READING GROWTH DURING THEIR FIRST YEAR OF INSTRUCTION. MANY STUDENTS RETURN SUCCESSFULLY TO MAINSTREAM EDUCATION AFTER THEY HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS IN ACADEMICS, LEARNING STRATEGIES AND SELF-ADVOCACY WHILE AT GROVES.
THE LEARNING CENTER WORKS WITH BOTH GROVES FAMILIES AND THOSE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO BENEFIT FROM THE STAFFS' EXPERTISE IN DIAGNOSING AND SUPPORTING INDIVIDUALS WITH LEARNING CHALLENGES. SERVICES INCLUDE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, TUTORING, SPEECH/LANGUAGE SERVICES, CAREER/POST-SECONDARY COACHING AND SUMMER PROGRAMS. THE LEARNING CENTER IS ONE OF THE FEW RESOURCES IN THE TWIN CITIES THAT OFFERS ALL OF THESE SERVICES UNDER ONE ROOF, AND MANY OF THE LEARNING CENTER CLIENTS PARTICIPATE IN MORE THAN ONE SERVICE.
THE GOAL OF THE INSTITUTE FOR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING IS TO BROADEN AND DEEPEN THE REACH OF THE GROVES LITERACY FRAMEWORK THROUGH THE DELIVERY OF COMMUNITY-WIDE TEACHER TRAINING EMBEDDED IN EVIDENCE-BASED LITERACY INSTRUCTION AND CURRICULUM. THE IPL PARTNERS WITH PUBLIC DISTRICT/CHARTER AND CATHOLIC SCHOOLS IN THE TWIN CITIES METRO AREA. PARTNERSHIPS ARE DESIGNED TO LAST THREE YEARS AS THE IPL STAFF TRAINS AND COACHES K-3 CLASSROOM TEACHERS TO IMPLEMENT THE FRAMEWORK WITH FIDELITY. SINCE ITS LAUNCH, THE IPL HAS REACHED OVER 3000 STUDENTS.
