THE COALITION OF ASIAN-AMERICAN LEADERS (CAAL) IS A NETWORK ORGANIZATION OF ASIAN MINNESOTAN LEADERS HARNESSING OUR COLLECTIVE POWER TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF COMMUNITY.
NETWORK WEAVING: CAAL HOSTED 13 EVENTS TO UPLIFT ASIAN MINNESOTAN LEADERS, PRESENT TIMELY TOPICS, AND CONNECT LEADERS FROM ACROSS SECTORS, GENERATIONS AND ETHNICITIES REACHING 3,500 PEOPLE. WE HELD A POWER UP LEADERSHIP SUMMIT FOR 213 LEADERS. WE MADE PRESENTATIONS TO OVER 20 GROUPS ABOUT THE ISSUES FACING ASIAN MINNESOTANS.
ADVANCING THE COMMUNITY'S PRIORITIES IN EDUCATION AND ECONOMICS: CAAL ENGAGED THE ASIAN MINNESOTAN COMMUNITY PROACTIVELY TO ENSURE THAT THE EDUCATION, ECONOMIC, AND IMMIGRATION CONCERNS OF THE COMMUNITY ARE UNDERSTOOD AND VISIBLE. WE ORGANIZED PARENTS, STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS FROM SAINT PAUL, MINNEAPOLIS, AND BROOKLYN PARK TO WORK ON EDUCATION EQUITY ISSUES IN THEIR LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS. WE ALSO HOSTED THE FIRST NATIONAL HERITAGE LANGUAGE AND CULTURAL STUDIES FORUM AND TRAINED PARENTS TO PROACTIVELY ADVOCATE FOR THEIR CHILDREN'S NEEDS. WE HOSTED ANOTHER ASIAN MINNESOTANS AT THE CAPITOL DAY WITH 10 ORGANIZATIONAL PARTNERS FOR OVER 150 PEOPLE.IN ECONOMICS, WE FINISHED A RESEARCH PROJECT THAT UPDATED ECONOMIC DATA USING DISAGGREGATED CENSUS DATA, AND BEGAN A QUALITATIVE RESEARCH PROJECT TO UNDERSTAND CULTURALLY BASED ECONOMIC MODELS. WE PUBLISHED A GRAPHIC REPORT AND IN-DEPTH REPORT ON THE QUANTITATIVE DATA. WE HELD MONTHLY EDUCATION AND ECONOMICS WORK GROUP MEETINGS TO DEVELOP AGENDA TOGETHER WITH COMMUNITY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. ALSO, AFTER SUCCESSFULLY ADVOCATING FOR THE REAUTHORIZATION OF THE NONPROFIT INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM, WE PROVIDED TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND ALSO RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DIVERSIFYING THE GRANT REVIEW PANEL, AND OUR IMPLEMENTATION PARTNER WAS ABLE TO MAKE 11 GRANTS OUT TO CULTURAL NONPROFITS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
LEADERSHIP SUPPORT PROGRAMMING: CAAL SUCCESSFULLY HOSTED IT'S THIRD CAAL LEADERS MOVEE (MAKING OUR VOICES EFFECTIVE FOR EQUITY) COHORT OF ITS SOCIAL JUSTICE MOVEMENT LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR 21 LEADERS, AND HELD ALUMNI ACTIVITIES FOR ITS 66 ALUMNI. WE ALSO CREATED A NEW YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM NAMED BOBA (BECOMING ORGANIZERS, BECOMING ADVOCATES) FOR 29 HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH. BOBA HELD A WEEKEND LONG RETREAT.
