2019 ACTIVITIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS:NEIGHBORHOOD PRESERVATIONTHROUGH ITS RESTORE SAINT PAUL LOAN PROGRAM AND OTHER BRICKS-AND-MORTAR INITIATIVES, HISTORIC SAINT PAUL (HSP) SECURES FINANCIAL RESOURCES AND PROVIDES TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO IMPROVE HISTORIC HOMES AND COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS, ENHANCING THE CHARACTER, ECONOMIC STABILITY AND PERCEPTION OF SAINT PAUL'S OLDEST NEIGHBORHOODS. RESTORE SAINT PAUL LOAN PROGRAMHSP ACTIVITY IN 2019 COMPLETED TWO FACADE REHAB PROJECTS AT 823 UNIVERSITY AVENUE AND 798 EAST 7TH STREET. WE ASSISTED BUSINESS AND PROPERTY OWNERS BY PROVIDING PRESERVATION-BASED DESIGNS, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, AND PROJECT PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO IMPROVE THE CONDITION AND APPEARANCE OF THEIR PROPERTIES AND THE STREET APPEAL AND MARKETABILITY OF THE BUSINESSES WITHIN THEM. 412 GOODRICHHSP WORKED WITH NEIGHBORS FROM THE LITTLE BOHEMIA NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION TO PREVENT THE DEMOLITION OF A TERRITORIAL HOMESTEAD PROPERTY, CONSTRUCTED IN 1856. AFTER SECURING OVER $90K IN GRANTS, PRIVATE CONTRIBUTIONS, AND IN-KIND GOODS AND SERVICES IN 2018, WE FINALIZED PLANS, SECURED CONSTRUCTION FINANCING, AND BEGIN RECONSTRUCTION IN 2019. DAYTON'S BLUFFHSP HELPED SECURE FUNDING AND SERVED AS PROJECT MANAGER THROUGHOUT THE REDEVELOPMENT OF 208 BATES AVENUE. THE PROPERTY - BUILT IN 1885 AND CATEGORIZED AS PIVOTAL TO THE CHARACTER OF THE DAYTON'S BLUFF HERITAGE PRESERVATION DISTRICT - HAD BEEN VACANT SINCE 2002 AND WAS THREATENED WITH DEMOLITION. HSP WORKED WITH NEIGHBORS, CITY OFFICIALS AND A PRIVATE DEVELOPER TO PRESERVE IT AND DEVELOP A PLAN FOR ITS REUSE. IN 2019 CONSTRUCTION WAS COMPLETED AND OCCUPIED AS FOUR UNITS OF LONG-TERM AFFORDABLE RENTAL HOUSING. PRESERVE FROGTOWNHSP WORKS WITH FROGTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION AND OTHER PARTNERS TO IMPLEMENT THE PRESERVE FROGTOWN INITIATIVE. 2019 ACTIVITY IN THIS COLLABORATIVE INCLUDED: REHABILITATING VULNERABLE VACANT PROPERTIES THAT REFLECT AND ENHANCE THE CHARACTER OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND PRESERVE AND IMPROVE AFFORDABLE HOUSING: WE COMPLETED THE REHABILITATION OF 690 LAFOND, WITH FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM LAND BANK TWIN CITIES AND MINNESOTA HOUSING AND FINANCE AGENCY IMPACT FUNDS. THE PROPERTY WAS MARKETED AS AN AFFORDABLE OWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITY AND SOLD TO A FIRST-TIME HOME BUYER. ADVOCATING FOR THE PRESERVATION AND REHABILITATION OF AT-RISK AFFORDABLE HOUSING. WE WORKED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FROGTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION AND NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS TO IDENTIFY AFFORDABLE HOUSING UNITS AT RISK OF DEMOLITION OR IN NEED OF REPAIR, DEVELOPED STRATEGIES, AND IDENTIFIED PARTNERS AND RESOURCES TO PRESERVE &/OR IMPROVE THEM.CULTURAL HERITAGEHISTORIC SAINT PAUL PROMOTES AREAS OF CULTURAL INTEREST CITYWIDE AND WORKS WITH CITY OFFICIALS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO LEVERAGE THEIR VALUE IN LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY-BUILDING INITIATIVES. SAINT PAUL HISTORICAL: HSP DEVELOPED AND MAINTAINS AN INTERACTIVE WEB SITE AND MOBILE APP, SAINT PAUL HISTORICAL, WHICH PROVIDES ONLINE ACCESS TO INFORMATION ON THE HISTORY OF SAINT PAUL'S OLDEST NEIGHBORHOODS. THE RESOURCE, WITH DESKTOP AND SMART-PHONE ACCESS, CONTAINS WALKING TOURS, AUDIO AND VIDEO RECORDINGS, AND OTHER INFORMATION CELEBRATING THE CITY'S CULTURAL HERITAGE. WE CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN AND EXPAND OFFERINGS ON THE SITE WHICH WAS UTILIZED BY OVER 51,000 PEOPLE IN 2019. ADVOCACYHISTORIC SAINT PAUL ADVOCATES FOR PUBLIC POLICIES THAT PROTECT AND ENHANCE SAINT PAUL'S HISTORIC AND CULTURAL RESOURCES AND ENGAGES COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO IDENTIFY HISTORIC ASSETS, ANALYZE REUSE ALTERNATIVES, AND MOBILIZE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SUPPORT AND RESOURCES FOR PRESERVATION PROJECTS. HISTORIC SAINT PAUL WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA: HSP RAISES AWARENESS OF PRESERVATION ISSUES, OPPORTUNITIES, AND SUCCESSES THROUGH OUR WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA. IN 2019 OVER 5,000 PEOPLE ACCESSED RESOURCES AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE.
