Organizations Filed Purposes: METRO BLOOMS MISSION IS TO PROMOTE AND CELEBRATE GARDENING, TO BEAUTIFY OUR COMMUNITIES AND HELP HEAL AND PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT. WE ARE A PRIVATE NONPROFIT VOLUNTEER-BASED ORGANIZATION WHICH SEEKS TO PARTNER WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS, BUSINESSES, PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS, LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND WATERSHED DISTRICTS TO PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND GARDENING AND LANDSCAPE PRACTICES TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF OUR LAND AND WATER RESOURCES.

METRO BLOOMS WORKSHOPS TEACH INDIVIDUALS ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF RAINGARDENS AND OTHER ECOLOGICAL LANDSCAPE PRACTICES AND HOW TO INSTALL THEM ON THEIR PROPERTY. WORKSHOPS PROVIDE INFORMATION AND INDIVIDUALIZED ADVICE BY MASTER GARDENERS AND A LANDSCAPE DESIGNER. AN ONSITE CONSULTATION AND A RAINGARDEN DESIGN CAN BE PROVIDED FOR PARTICIPANTS AT THEIR PROPERTY. METRO BLOOMS MAINTAINED RELATIONSHIPS WITH EXISTING CITY AND WATERSHED DISTRICT PARTNERS TO HOST 13 RESILIENT YARD WORKSHOPS, 1 HEALTHY SOILS WORKSHOP AND 11 ALTERNATIVE TURF WORKSHOPS. RAINGARDEN WORKSHOPS WERE ATTENDED BY 1,102 PARTICIPANTS AND PROVIDED 201 ONSITE CONSULTATIONS AND DESIGN SERVICES. IN MAY OF 2015, THE RICE CREEK WATERSHED DISTRICT BOARD OF MANAGERS APPROVED THE BLUE THUMB TRANSFER AGREEMENT. BLUE THUMB PLANTING FOR CLEAN WATER IS A PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM THAT PROMOTES NATIVE PLANTS, RAINGARDENS, AND SHORELINE STABILIZATIONS TO REDUCE RUNOFF AND IMPROVE WATER QUALITY, PROVIDING AN ONLINE ONE STOP SHOP WHERE PARTNERS SHARE RESOURCES TO PROMOTE NATIVE PLANTS, RAINGARDENS AND SHORELINE STABILIZATION. PEOPLE BENEFITED INCLUDED: 54 PARTNERS, 70 PEOPLE WHO PLEDGED TO PLANT, AND A TOTAL OF 15.5 ACRES, AND 4,100 PEOPLE WHO CAME THROUGH THE STATE FAIR EXHIBIT.

SUSTAINABLE LANDCARE MAINTENANCE AND EDUCATION. MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION OF STORMWATER BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES (BMPS) AT 19 MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT SITES, 2 COMMON BOND AFFORDABLE HOUSING SITES, 1 COMMERCIAL SITE (SENTYRZ MARKET IN MINNEAPOLIS), 1 YMCA IN NORTH MINNEAPOLIS, AND 12 RAINGARDENS IN CHAMPLIN, MN. SUSTAINABLE LANDCARE TRAININGS LET BY METRO BLOOMS STAFF PROVIDE EDUCATION AND RESOURCES FOR FACILITY STAFF, YOUTH OUTDOOR CREWS AND LOCAL CONTRACTORS TO PROPERLY MAINTAIN SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPES INCLUDING RAINGARDENS AND NATIVE PLANTINGS. WE LET 6 SUSTAINABLE LANDCARE TRAININGS IN 2018 FOR 3 YOUTH OUTDOOR JOBS ORGANIZATIONS, ONE LOCAL CONTRACTOR (NEON), AND FACILITY STAFF AT AUTUMN RIDGE AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC HOUSING AUTHORITY.

RAINGARDEN INSTALLATION/NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECTS PROGRAM. WE INSTALLED 120 RAINGARDENS AND 5 BOULEVARD BIOSWALES IN 11 NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECTS IN 2018. THROUGH OUR BLOOMING ALLEYS PROGRAM, WE INSTALLED 15 RAINGARDENS, 8 NATIVE PLANTINGS, AND, 2 PERMEABLE PAVEMENT SYSTEMS. ADDITIONAL INSTALLATIONS INCLUDED A LARGE PERMEABLE ALLEY AND MONITORING PROJECT ACCEPTING RUNOFF FROM SEVERAL RESIDENTIAL SITES. WE DESIGNED AND INSTALLED SEVERAL COMMERCIAL-SCALE RAINGARDENS AND LANDSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS AT AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMMUNITY, WITH INPUT AND PARTICIPATION FROM THE COMMUNITY. WE DESIGNED AND OVERSAW THE INSTALLATION OF 2 COMMERCIAL RAINGARDEN RETROFIT PROJECTS UNDER A GRANT FROM THE BOARD OF WATER AND SOIL RESOURCES, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MISSISSIPPI WATERSHED MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION.
