NCFR provides an educational forum for family researchers, educators and practitioners to share in the development and dissemination of knowledge about families and family relationships, establishes professional standards, and works to promote family well-being.

Membership Services:An average of 2,616 people were active NCFR members at a given time. About 50% of members participated in one or more of NCFR's 10 sections and 26 focus groups, which are internal topic interest groups for discussion and networking. NCFR supported 10 state and regional-level affiliates, or local chapters, as well as 25 student affiliates at universities. NCFR Honors award was granted to 49 graduating students in 2019 and 64 individuals were given awards at the NCFR annual conference.
Information Dissemination:NCFR created and published two policy briefs in 2019 titled Immigrant Families Life Course: Policy Impacts on Physical and Farm Family Stressors: Private Problems, Public Issue. Additional research and policy briefs were in production at the end of 2019. NCFR published five issues of its flagship scholarly journal, Journal of Marriage and Family, in 2019, as well as five issues of its journal Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Science, and four issues of its Journal of Family Theory & Review. These issues were provided to roughly 2,616 active members, 6,796 institutions, and articles downloaded approximately two million times. NCFR created three resource collections in 2019: Understanding Gun Violence From a Family Perspective, Family Separation Resources, Military Families, and Parental Incarceration. Resource collections are a method to disseminate research such as NCFR journal articles, webinars, conference recordings, articles from NCFR Report and CFLE Network, and occasionally outside resources.NCFR also published four issues each of its NCFR Report member magazine and CFLE Network newsletter, which contain educational articles for members and CFLEs pertaining to their professional interest areas. NCFR's weekly email newsletter also provides announcements about educational and professional opportunities in the family field.
Educational Activities: Over 1,000 people attended the four-day NCFR annual conference in Fort Worth, Texas in 2019. The conference included three pre-conference workshops (Theory Construction and Research Methodology, Recognizing Mental Health Issues in Higher Education: Mental Health First Aid Training, and Taking you Family Science Research Public: Media Training Workshop). In 2019, an average of 1473 people held the Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) credential. 4 new academic Family Science programs received first-time approval for including coursework that meets CFLE standards. Twenty-six programs were renewed, bringing the total to 127 programs at the end of 2019. NCFR awarded 4 CFLE scholarships to provide coverage of CFLE Annual fees. A total of 5 applications were received but one applicant was determined to be ineligible because they had received it in the past.NCFR planned and hosted 13 formal webinars in 2019 for members' professional development and skills development. NCFR continues to make available all its past webinar recordings for this purpose.The Family Life Education Assessment exam was administered by three Family Science programs. A total of 49 students completed the pilot exams.
