Organizations Filed Purposes:
NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE HAS WORKED TO EMPOWER AND UPLIFT UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES IN SAINT PAUL FOR MORE THAN A CENTURY. FOUNDED BY THE WOMEN OF MOUNT ZION TEMPLE, NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1897 TO PROVIDE A SAFE HAVEN FOR JEWISH REFUGEES FLEEING THE POGROMS IN RUSSIA. OVER THE PAST 123 YEARS, WE HAVE SUPPORTED FAMILIES FROM MORE THAN 50 CULTURAL AND ETHNIC POPULATIONS AND WITH EACH SUCCESSIVE WAVE OF NEWCOMERS WE MODIFY OUR SERVICES TO MEET THE CHANGING NEEDS AND DEMOGRAPHICS OF OUR PARTICIPANTS. WHAT HAS NOT CHANGED IS OUR COMMITMENT TO HELPING FAMILIES MOVE FROM "SURVIVE" TO "THRIVE."
TO HELP PEOPLE GAIN THE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND CONFIDENCE TO THRIVE IN DIVERSE COMMUNITIES.
FAMILY CENTERS:OUR SIX FAMILY CENTERS PROVIDE PARTICIPANTS WITH SERVICES INCLUDING HOUSING SUPPORT, EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, FAMILY COACHING SERVICES, AND GOVERNMENT BENEFITS ENROLLMENT. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020 (FY20) WE SERVED 2,082 TOTAL CLIENTS (1,328 FAMILIES) THROUGH CRISIS AND CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES, AND PROVIDED RENTAL ASSISTANCE TO 443 INDIVIDUALS. 83% EXPANDED THEIR SUPPORT NETWORK.
FOOD SUPPORT:OUR TWO FOOD MARKETS AND FRESH PRODUCE DISTRIBUTIONS ARE A CORNERSTONE FOR DISENFRANCHISED FAMILIES ACROSS SAINT PAUL. NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE FOOD SUPPORT PROGRAMS PROVIDE PARTICIPANTS WITH ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS FOOD AND ASSISTANCE WITH GOVERNMENT BENEFITS ENROLLMENT. IN FY20, WE DISTRIBUTED 1,027,211 POUNDS OF FOOD TO FAMILIES AND MADE 728 REFERRALS TO OTHER AGENCIES. 338 INDIVIDUALS WERE SCREENED FOR SNAP ELIGIBILITY.
PARENT AND EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION: WITH THEIR BASIC NEEDS MET, PARTICIPANTS OF ALL AGES HAVE THE CAPACITY TO FOCUS ON LONG-TERM GOALS BY ENROLLING IN A LIFELONG LEARNING PROGRAM. BEGINNING WITH PARENT AND EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, WE SUPPORT CHILDREN AGES 0-6 AND THEIR PARENTS IN AGE-APPROPRIATE DEVELOPMENT, AND GIVE THE CHILDREN THE EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL. IN THE 2019-2020 ACADEMIC YEAR WE SERVED 79 CHILDREN THROUGH SKILLS FOR SCHOOL AND FAMILY LITERACY, AND 76 FAMILIES RECEIVED PARENT AND EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION. 27 FAMILIES WERE SERVICE THROUGH THRIVE FAMILY HOME VISITS WITH 243 HOME VISITS DURING THE YEAR.
