Organizations Filed Purposes: PUBLIC ART SAINT PAUL MAKES ST. PAUL A BETTER CITY BY PLACING ARTISTS IN LEADING ROLES TO SHAPE PUBLIC SPACES, IMPROVE CITY SYSTEMS, AND DEEPEN CIVIC ENGAGEMENT.

FOUNDED IN 1987, PUBLIC ART SAINT PAUL HAS HAD A MAJOR PRESENCE IN AND IMPACT ON THE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE OF SAINT PAUL FOR MORE THAN 3 DECADES. PASP CREATES AN ARTS-INFUSED URBAN ENVIRONMENT WITH VIBRANT PUBLIC SPACES THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH ALL SECTORS OF SOCIETY: CITY OF SAINT PAUL AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, ARTS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, AND CORPORATIONS. PASP ACCOMPLISHES ITS OBJECTIVES BY COLLABORATING ON THE CREATION OF SPACES FOR PUBLIC GATHERINGS AND ENJOYMENT OF COMMUNITY AND NATURE; BY ADVANCING THE UNIQUE TALENTS OF ARTISTS TO BRING CREATIVITY TO CITY SYSTEMS; BY ARTIST-LED COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES; AND BY DEEPENING CIVIC ENGAGEMENT FOR RESIDENTS. PASP HAS BUILT SEVERAL DISTINCT PROGRAMS THAT HAVE BECOME NATIONAL MODELS IN THE FIELD OF PUBLIC ART WHILE MAKING OUR CITY MORE VIBRANT, LIVABLE, AND JUST. SOME OF OUR DISTINCTIVE PROGRAMS INCLUDE CITY ARTIST, SIDEWALK POETRY, STREETS PUBLIC ART, EARTH LAB WORKSHOPS, THE ART OF FOOD IN FROGTOWN AND RONDO, DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC ARTIST PROGRAM, AND CREATE: THE COMMUNITY MEAL. PUBLIC ARTS SAINT PAUL PROVIDES LEADERSHIP AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO ARTISTS WHO ARE COMMISSIONED TO CREATE ART, TEACH WORKSHOPS, AND LEAD MAJOR PROJECTS. OUR AUDIENCE INCLUDES ALL PEOPLE WHO LIVE, WORK, STUDY IN, AND VISIT ST. PAUL. THE CITY'S POPULATION HAS REACHED 306,000, WITH 50% PEOPLE OF COLOR. 17.5% ARE FOREIGN BORN, AND 22.8% ARE BELOW THE POVERTY LINE. SAINT PAUL HAS 174,000 GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE WORKERS AND ATTRACTS 13.8 MILLION VISITORS ANNUALLY. IN CALCULATING THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO USE AND ENJOY OUR WORK, FROM THE PUBLIC SPACES WE HAVE CREATED TO THE SMALL WORKS OF ART, SUCH AS SIDEWALK POEMS, WE ESTIMATE ON THE VERY MODEST SIDE THAT ABOUT 404,000 PEOPLE ENCOUNTER AND PARTICIPATE IN OUR WORK EACH YEAR. PASP'S WORK IS DISTRIBUTED INTO EVERY AREA OF SAINT PAUL, INCLUDING DOWNTOWN AND NEIGHBORHOODS, FROM OUR MAJOR SITES AND PROJECTS AND TO THE STREET-BY-STREET LEVEL. ALTHOUGH OUR PROGRAMS SERVE THE ENTIRE CITY, PASP HAS MAINTAINED A SPECIAL FOCUS ON NEIGHBORHOODS WITH A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF LOW-INCOME YOUTH AND FAMILIES FROM MANY RACIAL AND CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS SUCH AS RONDO AND FROGTOWN.
