Provide compassionate, quality care, focusing on the needs of our patients and their families.
North Valley Health Center (NVHC) is a 12-bed acute care health center located in Warren, MN. Our major program service is to provide quality medical services that are accessible to all communities we service. Included in the program services are inpatient and swing bed care, a full-time emergency room, various outpatient services, and family practice clinic where care is provided regardless of a patient's ability to pay for the services provided. North Valley Health Center also provides public health services for Marshall County. During 2019, North Valley Health Center's Acute Care Health Center experienced a decrease in patient days. Continued on Schedule O.Acute inpatient days decreased 38 days and acute swing-bed days decreased 40 days for a total decrease of 78 days. Our full-time emergency room provided care to 1,163 patients, which was a decrease of 278 patients over the prior year.Within the Rural Health Clinic, NVHC operated with a half-time Physician, a Physician Assistant, and three Nurse Practitioners throughout most of the fiscal year and experienced a small decline in clinic visits from the prior year. NVHC did hire an additional half-time Physician in October. Our family practice clinic saw 6,859 patients in 2019 compared to 7,076 patients in 2018.In 2019, North Valley Health Center provided $58,253 worth of charity care based on established rates of charges foregone. Total direct and indirect costs related to these foregone charges was approximately $47,000 based on an average of ratios of cost to gross charges.NVHC completed its third Community Health Needs Assessment in 2019 which complemented the strategic plans established in 2013 and 2016. Three goals were determined to help the facility accomplish our mission and vision statements:Goal 1 - Improve Access to Care by conducting an assessment to determine the need for another medical provider and continue to provide financial counseling education and area transportation. In 2019, NVHC hired another half-time medical practitioner to complement an existing half-time practitioner. This additional hire improves access to care for our patients and also allows NVHC to start up the Cardiac Rehab program again. Financial counseling education and area transportation also continue to be looked at to determine best practices.Goal 2 - Improve Mental Health Access by reviewing mental health services in the region and discuss opportunities for working together with other mental health services providers in the region. In 2019, meetings continued to be held with various leaders in our community as well as outside communities to determine how to address the mental health issues. No new funding opportunities have been presented from the State of MN and the consensus from the meetings was to continue to wait and see what funding opportunities would be provided as the cost of these services are high.Goal 3 - Improve Obesity issues by providing education to the public through forums and other methods and working with other service providers in the region to address the issue. Also work with our internal staff on improving communication with our patients on their weight status. Educational forums focusing on weight loss and diabetic education were held for community members in 2019.
