PATIENT CARE (SCHEDULE O):MAYO CLINIC HEALTH SYSTEM IS A FAMILY OF CLINICS, HOSPITALS AND HEALTH CARE FACILITIES SERVING COMMUNITIES IN MINNESOTA, IOWA, WISCONSIN AND GEORGIA. AS PART OF MAYO CLINIC, THE HEALTH SYSTEM OFFERS CARE DESIGNED FOR THE WHOLE BODY CLOSE TO THE PATIENT'S HOME, WHEN THEY NEED IT. A MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM OF EXPERTS HAS READY ACCESS TO KNOWLEDGE, RESOURCES, AND EXPERTISE OF MAYO CLINIC AND COLLABORATES ON PROVIDING EXACTLY THE CARE THE PATIENT NEEDS. MAYO CLINIC HEALTH SYSTEM SITES EMPLOY APPROXIMATELY 1,000 PHYSICIANS AND 15,000 ALLIED HEALTH STAFF. IN ADDITION, MAYO CLINIC PHYSICIANS FROM MULTIPLE SPECIALTIES REGULARLY SEE PATIENTS AT HEALTH SYSTEM FACILITIES. BESIDES HAVING HEALTH CARE FACILITIES IN NEARLY 70 COMMUNITIES, MAYO CLINIC HEALTH SYSTEM INCLUDES 19 OWNED HOSPITALS, FIVE OWNED NURSING HOMES, PHYSICIAN SERVICE AGREEMENTS WITH ONE ADDITIONAL HOSPITAL, AND CONTRACT MANAGEMENT AGREEMENTS WITH TWO ADDITIONAL HOSPITALS AND ONE NURSING HOME. SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1992, MAYO CLINIC HEALTH SYSTEM HAS GROWN INTO ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL REGIONAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS IN THE UNITED STATES. MORE THAN 600,000 UNIQUE PATIENTS ACCOUNT FOR MORE THAN 2.6 MILLION VISITS ANNUALLY IN MAYO CLINIC HEALTH SYSTEM. IT IS ALSO A NATIONAL LEADER IN QUALITY AND SAFETY EFFORTS. MAYO CLINIC HEALTH SYSTEM - WASECA (MCHS-WASECA) IS A CRITICAL ACCESS HOSPITAL WHICH IS PART OF THE MAYO CLINIC HEALTH SYSTEM. PATIENT SERVICES: IN 2014, MCHS-WASECA ADMITTED 260 PATIENTS AND PROVIDED PATIENT CARE IN OVER 30,000 CLINIC VISITS. MCHS-WASECA OPERATES PRIMARY CARE CLINICS IN WASECA, WATERVILLE, AND JANESVILLE.UNCOMPENSATED CARE: MCHS-WASECA PROVIDES CARE TO PERSONS COVERED BY GOVERNMENTAL PROGRAMS. SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO BOTH MEDICARE AND MEDICAID PATIENTS/RESIDENTS AT SUBSTANTIAL DISCOUNTS FROM STANDARD FEES. MCHS-WASECA IS DESIGNATED AS A CRITICAL ACCESS HOSPITAL AND IS REIMBURSED BASED ON ITS COST OF PROVIDING SERVICES FOR HOSPITAL MEDICARE PATIENTS. CHARITY CARE IS ALSO PROVIDED FOR PATIENTS THAT ARE FINANCIALLY UNABLE TO PAY FOR SERVICES PROVIDED. THE COST OF CHARITY CARE PROVIDED IN 2014 WAS APPROXIMATELY $184,000. THE COST OF UNCOMPENSATED CARE IN 2014 PROVIDED TO LOW INCOME PATIENTS THROUGH MEDICAID AND OTHER GOVERNMENTAL PROGRAMS WAS APPROXIMATELY $1,104,000. THIS AMOUNT INCLUDES THE MEDICAID SURCHARGE OF $159,686 AND $227,903 PAID TO MINNESOTACARE (A PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES HEALTH CARE FOR LOW INCOME POPULATIONS.)MCHS-WASECA PROVIDES CHARGE-BASED DISCOUNTS TO UNINSURED PATIENTS. THE TOTAL DISCOUNTS GIVEN IN 2014 WERE $35,000. MCHS-WASECA LEASES SPACE AND PROVIDES SUPPORT SERVICES TO AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS TO HELP FURTHER THEIR EXEMPT PURPOSE OF PROVIDING PATIENT CARE.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT (SCHEDULE O): MCHS-WASECA PARTICIPATED IN NUMEROUS COMMUNITY INITIATIVES IN 2014. AREAS OF INTERACTION INCLUDE: THE COLLABORATION WITH OTHER LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS AND THE ANNUAL BICYCLE HELMET SAFETY EVENT. MCHS-WASECA CONTINUED ITS COLLABORATION WITH THE WASECA PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE EDUCATION AND ADMINISTER INFLUENZA VACCINATIONS TO WASECA PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND LARGE AREA EMPLOYERS. MCHS - WASECA ALSO ADMINISTERED CONCUSSION SCREENINGS TO ATHLETES AT WASECA PUBLIC SCHOOLS.SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:MCHS-WASECA CONTINUES TO OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS TO THOSE INTERESTED IN A HEALTH CARE CAREER AND THAT ARE WILLING TO COME BACK TO MCHS-WASECA AND WORK IN THIS HEALTH CARE SETTING FOR TWO YEARS. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WERE AWARDED IN 2014 FOLLOWING GUIDELINES FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM.VOLUNTEER SERVICES: THE VOLUNTEERS HAVE ENHANCED THE ENVIRONMENT AND SERVICES OFFERED TO PATIENTS, VISITORS & STAFF OF THE ORGANIZATION. IN 2014, THE VOLUNTEER GROUP CONTINUED TO PARTICIPATE IN MANY ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING SUPPORT GROUPS, RESPITE CARE EDUCATION AND VOLUNTEERING IN NUMEROUS MCHS-WASECA PROGRAMS. THERE WERE 33 VOLUNTEERS IN 2014 WHO PROVIDED OVER 1,325 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE TO THE LOCAL MEDICAL CENTER AND RELATED PROGRAMS. THE VALUE OF THIS TIME BASED ON THE INDEPENDENT SECTOR'S VALUE OF VOLUNTEER TIME IS APPROXIMATELY $30,568.
