PROGRAMMATICALLY, HAFA FOCUS ITS WORK IN FOUR AREAS: LAND ACCESS- WHERE WE MANAGE A 155 ACRE FARM IN DAKOTA COUNTY WHERE HMONG FAMILIES SUBLEASE 5-10 ACRE PARCEL AND WE ALSO TRAIN AND MODEL SUSTAINABLE GROWING METHODS AND WORK WITH FARMERS TO EXPLORE INNOVATED WAYS TO OWN AND ACCESS LAND LONG-TERM; BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT- TRAINING WITH OUR FARMERS AND THEIR CHILDREN ON FARM FINANCIALS, GENERATE FARM BUSINESS PLAN AND HELP THEM ACCESS MICROLOANS AND FEDERAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANT PROGRAMS; RESEARCH AND TRAINING- TRAIN OUR FARMERS ON TOPICS RANGING FROM SOIL HEALTH AND SOIL FERTILITY AND CONDUCT A MULTI-YEAR RESEARCH TO TEST THE IMPACT OF COVER CROP ON SOIL AND WATER QUALITY; ALTERNATIVE MARKET, WE RUN A FOOD HUB THAT AGGREGATE PRODUCE FROM FARMERS TO EXPAND MARKETING OPPORTUNITIES BESIDES FARMERS MARKET. PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS:CONDUCT A 14 SESSION WHOLE FARM PLANNING TRAINING CURRICULUM WITH FOCUS ON: SOIL HEALTH AND SOIL FERTILITY, COVER CROPPING, WHOLE FARM PLANNING, GOOD AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES, FOOD SAFETY WRITING WORKSHOP, BREAK-EVEN ANALYSIS, FARM BUSINESS MANAGEMENT, FARM TRACTOR AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE, ASPARAGUS PRODUCTION AND HIGH TUNNEL PRODUCTION.SUPPORTED FARMERS IN SECURING AND FULFILLING MICROLOAN REQUIREMENTS AND OBTAIN FEDERAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM TO ERECT THREE HIGH TUNNEL STRUCTURES.SUCCESSFULLY INCORPORATED OVER 25 ACRES OF COVER CROP TO ENHANCE SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES AND IMPROVE SOIL HEALTH. THE ALTERNATIVE MARKET PROGRAM OPERATE A FOOD HUB AND TRAINED FARMERS ON FOOD SAFETY AND GOOD AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES (GAP) AND AGGREGATE PRODUCE TO EXPAND THEIR MARKET OPPORTUNITIES BESIDES THE FARMERS MARKET.
