Organizations Filed Purposes: SEEKING TO PUT GOD'S LOVE INTO ACTION, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER TO BUILD HOMES, COMMUNITIES, AND HOPE. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WINONA-FILLMORE COUNTIES IS PART OF A GLOBAL, NONPROFIT HOUSING ORGANIZATION THAT IS DEDICATED TO ELIMINATING SUBSTANDARD HOUSING LOCALLY AND WORLDWIDE THROUGH CONSTRUCTING, REHABILITATING AND PRESERVING HOMES; BY ADVOCATING FOR FAIR AND JUST HOUSING POLICIES; AND BY PROVIDING TRAINING AND ACCESS TO RESOURCES TO HELP FAMILIES IMPROVE THEIR SHELTER CONDITIONS. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WAS FOUNDED ON THE CONVICTION THAT EVERY MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD SHOULD HAVE A DURABLE PLACE TO LIVE IN DIGNITY AND SAFETY, AND THAT DECENT SHELTER IN DECENT COMMUNITIES SHOULD BE A MATTER OF CONSCIENCE AND ACTION FOR ALL.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY CONSTRUCTION SERVICES ARE COMPRISED OF TWO PROGRAMS SERVING FAMILIES IN NEED OF A DECENT PLACE TO LIVE: NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION AND A BRUSH WITH KINDNESS EXTERIOR HOME REPAIR. BOTH PROGRAMS ARE DELIVERED BY A PRIMARILY VOLUNTEER WORKFORCE. SINCE 1994, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WINONA-FILLMORE COUNTIES HAS SERVED 51 FAMILIES THROUGH THE HOME CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM. EACH PARTNER FAMILY SERVED TAKES PART IN BUILDING THEIR HOME WITH 325 OR MORE HOURS OF SWEAT EQUITY AND PAYS AN AFFORDABLE, INTEREST-FREE MORTGAGE. HABITAT HAS OFFERED EXTERIOR HOME MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR SERVICES THROUGH THE A BRUSH WITH KINDNESS PROGRAM SINCE 2012 TO FAMILIES WITH LIMITED INCOME. FINANCED THROUGH INTEREST-FREE LOANS AS NEEDED, PARTNER FAMILIES PAY THE COST OF MATERIALS. LABOR IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE BY VOLUNTEERS. TYPICAL PROJECTS INCLUDE EXTERIOR PAINT, SIDING AND SOFFIT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR, ACCESSIBILITY MODIFICATIONS, ROOF REPAIR, AND MORE. IN 2020, HABITAT COMPLETED 68 ABWK REPAIR PROJECTS.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, THE HABITAT RESTORE IS A HOME IMPROVEMENT REUSE STORE THAT SELLS GENTLY USED AND NEW BUILDING MATERIALS AND FURNITURE AT A FRACTION OF RETAIL PRICES. ITEMS SOLD IN THE STORE ARE DONATED BY AREA BUSINESS AND INDIVIDUALS WHO SUPPORT THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CAUSE. THE LOW PRICE OF GOODS SOLD HELPS PEOPLE WHO STRUGGLE TO AFFORD HOME IMPROVEMENT MATERIALS AS WELL AS THOSE WHO LOVE A GOOD DEAL. THE RESTORE OFFERS FREE DONATION PICK-UPS, DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE, AND REUSABLE GOODS ARE DIVERTED FROM THE LANDFILL. SINCE THE RESTORE OPENED ITS DOORS IN 2003, 3,693,973 POUNDS OF REUSABLE GOODS HAVE BEEN DIVERTED FROM THE LANDFILL. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, PROCEEDS FROM RESTORE SALES HELP HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD AND REPAIR HOMES IN WINONA AND FILLMORE COUNTIES. WITH ONLY TWO AND A HALF STAFF, THE RESTORE IS STAFFED PRIMARILY BY A VOLUNTEER WORKFORCE.
