Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MACKS CENTER FOR JEWISH EDUCATION PROMOTES AND FACILITATES LIFELONG LEARNING THAT NURTURES JEWISH IDENTITY AND STRENGTHENS JEWISH COMMUNITY.
PROVIDE SUPPORT TO EDUCATORS, SCHOOLS & INSTITUTIONS DEDICATED TO JEWISH LEARNING.
GRANTS ADMINISTRATION: INCLUDED ALMOST $900,000 IN GRANTS TO FULL TIME TEACHERS INCLUDING ALMOST $130,000 FOR CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. THESE GRANTS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO OVER 900 TEACHERS IN JEWISH SCHOOLS. IN ADDITION, ALMOST $130,000 WAS GRANTED TO STUDENTS TO STUDY IN ISRAEL DURING AND AFTER HIGH SCHOOL. CJE DISTRIBUTED EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES TO 15 FAMILIES IMPACTED BY CHILDHOOD MENTAL HEALTH, AUTISM, OR OBESITY. OVER $100,000 IN GRANTS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO 27 ORGANIZATIONS FOR INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING. OTHER GRANTS INCLUDED PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMMING FOR ISRAEL EDUCATION FROM PRESCHOOL THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL.
ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMMING: THE CJE PROVIDED RESOURCES FOR JEWISH FAMILY PROGRAMMING IN FY20. PROGRAMS FOR THE FISCAL YEAR WERE DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS, THAT IS, FROM JULY 2019 - FEBRUARY 2020 AND AFTERWARD. THIS WAS DUE TO THE COVID EPIDEMIC, PARTICULARLY WHEN OUR OFFICES WERE CLOSED. EVEN SO, THE CJE DISTRIBUTED PJ LIBRARY BOOKS TO ALMOST 3,500 SUBSCRIBERS (CHILDREN FROM BIRTH TO AGE 11). FROM JULY 2019 - MARCH 2020 THERE WERE 32 DISTINCT PROGRAMS FOR THESE FAMILIES. IN ADDITION THERE WERE 35 IN PERSON TOT SHABBATS DURING THIS PERIOD. IN FY20, CJE OFFERRED 19 PROGRAMS SPECIFICALLY FOR GRANDPARENTS AND THEIR GRANDCHILDREN. CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE OAFTER MARCH 2020, OUR PROGRAMMING CONTINUED VIRTUALLY INCLUDING WEEKLY RECORDED VIDEOS EACH FRIDAY, CRAFTS PROGRAMS, BAKING ACTIVITIES, SCAVENGER HUNTS, NATURE WALK, STORYTELLING AND HOLIDAY PROGRAMMING. THIS PROGRAMMING WAS DEVELOPED AND RUN BY STAFF MEMBERS FROM ALL DEPARTMENTS IN THE AGENCY. OUR FACEBOOK PRESENCE RESULTED IN ALMOST 4,000 REACHES FOR CJE PROGRAMMING. THE CJE RAN 50 PROGRAMS FOR OUR SMALL COMMUNITY BASED POPULATIONS. AFTER MARCH 2020, THE CJE DISTRIBUTED KITS FOR OUR VIRTUAL EVENTS. THE CJE ALSO RAN EVENTS FOR 115 UNIQUE RUSSIAN FAMILIES.
SERVICES TO SCHOOLS: CJE PROVIDES BEST PRACTICE AND CURRICULUM CONSULTATION TO 2,500 TEACHERS TEACHING IN 14 EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTERS, 11 DAY SCHOOLS, AND 14 RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS. THIS INCLUDED STATE APROVED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CLASSES FOR 400 EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHERS. MENTOR TRAINING WAS PROVIDED FOR 22 ADMINISTRATORS AND TEACHERS. IN ADDITION, CJE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING THE SCHOOLS RUN CLASSES TO TRAIN PARENTS IN RECOGNIZING AND COMBATING BULLYING. AFTER MARCH 2020, WHEN THE SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED, THE CJE CONTRACTED WITH PRESENTERS AND OFFERED CLASSES TO ALL TEACHERS TO HELP THEM TRANSITION TO VIRTUAL TEACHING. CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE OTHERE WERE 24 DISTINCT PROGAMS AND, IN ADDITION, THERE WERE QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSIONS FOR TEACHERS TO ANSWER SPECIFIC QUESTIONS IMMEDIATELY ON THIS NEW TEACHING METHOD. CJE CONTINUES TO PROVIDE SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVOCACY FOR 100 FAMILIES WHO HAVE NEED FOR SPEICAL SERVICES AS WELL AS INTERPRETING AND CAPTIONING SERVICES TO SCHOOLS AND THE COMMUNITY. IN FY20, ENROLLMENT IN DEAF PROGRAMMING INCREASED AS PEOPLE WERE ABLE TO ACCESS THIS PROGRAMMING VIRTUALLY. CJE NEGOTIATED THE DIFFICULTIES INVOLVED IN INTERPRETING FOR THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING COMMUNITY ON LINE. CAPTIONING SERVICES WERE VITAL AND THE DISABILITY AND INCLUSION TEAM MADE THIS SERVICE A PRIORITY.
