WE MAINTAIN AN UNWAVERING FOCUS ON ADDRESSING THE KEY CHALLENGES OF BALTIMORE'S URBAN FAMILIES BY WORKING TO CONNECT FATHERS TO THEIR CHILDREN, CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL SECURITY THROUGH WORK, AND PROVIDING ACCESS TO OTHER KEY INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES. IN FURTHERANCE OF OUR DIRECT SERVICE WORK, CFUF COLLABORATES WITH POLICY AND PRACTICE CHANGE-MAKERS TO ADVOCATE POLICIES THAT EFFECTIVELY ENHANCE AND IMPACT LOW-INCOME FAMILIES. CENTER FOR URBAN FAMILIES, INC. SPECIALIZES IN SERVICING THE NEEDS OF BALTIMORE'S MOST HARD-TO-REACH POPULATIONS, INCLUDING THE FORMERLY INCARCERATED, THOSE WITH A PRIOR HISTORY OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE, AND LOW-INCOME, NON-CUSTODIAL FATHERS.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT-SPECIALIZING IN SERVING BALTIMORE'S HARD-TO-REACH POPULATIONS, SUCH AS THE FORMERLY INCARCERATED- BOTH CHRONICALLY UNEMPLOYED AND UNDEREMPLOYED- THE CFUF ECONOMIC SUCCESS (ES) DEPARTMENT CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING CORE COMPONENTS: PRE-EMPLOYMENT SERVICES TO HELP LOW-INCOME WORKERS SECURE EMPLOYMENT (STRIVE BALTIMORE); JOB RETENTION AND ADVANCEMENT PROGRAMS TO HELP LOW-INCOME WORKERS STAY EMPLOYED, ADVANCE IN THE WORKPLACE, AND MOVE TOWARDS FAMILY-SUSTAINING WAGES; MARKET-DRIVEN TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS; INTENSIVE CAREER AND FAMILY-FOCUSED CASE MANAGEMENT; AND, THROUGH LEVERAGED SUPPORT, ACCESS TO CRITICAL WORK SUPPORTS AND WORK-RELATED BENEFITS, INCLUDING TRANSPORTATION SUBSIDIES, CLOTHING ASSISTANCE, AND ON-SITE ACCESS TO A COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORTIVE SERVICE REFERRAL SYSTEM.THE ES DEPARTMENT IS INTENTIONALLY STRUCTURED TO INCREASE CLIENT ACCESS TO A COMPREHENSIVE RANGE OF JOB ACQUISITION, RETENTION AND ADVANCEMENT SERVICES AND WORK SUPPORTS.

RESPONSIBLE FATHERHOOD-AN OUTGROWTH OF CFUF'S 22 YEAR OLD MEN'S SERVICES PROGRAM, THE BROADER GOALS OF BRFP ARE TO INCREASE FATHERS' EMOTIONAL AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF THEIR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES BY: 1. IMPROVING ACQUISITION AND DEMONSTRATION OF PARENTING SKILLS; 2. INCREASING CHILD SUPPORT AWARENESS AND MANAGEMENT; 3. INCREASING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS AND HEALTHY COMMUNICATION; AND, 4. INCREASING JOB READINESS AND EMPLOYABILITY. PROGRAM SERVICES ARE DELIVERED THROUGH A COMPREHENSIVE THREE-MONTH COHORT MODEL, ADVANCING RESPONSIBLE FATHERHOOD PROGRAM MODEL, WHICH CONSISTS OF INTENSE CASE MANAGEMENT, SUPPORT SERVICE REFERRALS, AND EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS. THE KEY COMPONENTS OF THE BRFP ARE INTENSE CASE MANAGEMENT, FATHER-CHILD ACTIVITIES AND WEEKLY FATHERHOOD GROUP SESSIONS. BRFP'S CORE COMPONENTS ARE SUPPORTED BY OUTREACH AND RECRUITMENT, INTAKE AND ENROLLMENT AND SERVICE NEEDS ASSESSMENTS.

FAMILIES-COUPLES ADVANCING TOGETHER (CAT) PROVIDES HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP SKILL BUILDING, EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE, AND CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES, TO COUPLES WITH CHILDREN WHO CURRENTLY RECEIVE PUBLIC BENEFITS THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES. THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF CAT ARE TO HELP COUPLES MOVE TOWARD HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS AND FAMILY-FRIENDLY EMPLOYMENT THAT IMPROVES THEIR ECONOMIC CIRCUMSTANCES AND PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR LASTING FAMILY UNITS FOR BOTH PARENTS AND CHILDREN. THE CAT MODEL CONSISTS OF A SIX-WEEK (TWELVE SESSIONS), COHORT-BASED CURRICULUM THAT IS COMBINED WITH HOME VISITS AND LONG-TERM FOLLOW-UP POST COMPLETION. THESE TWELVE GROUP SESSIONS ARE RUN BY CARING AND SKILLED FACILITATORS WHO CREATE A LEARNER-CENTERED, POSITIVE, RESPECTFUL AND COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT THAT ALLOWS THE COUPLES TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES AND KNOWLEDGE WITH PEERS FROM SIMILAR BACKGROUNDS. WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF FAMILY SERVICES COORDINATORS AND GROUP FACILITATORS, PARTICIPANTS DEVELOP A FAMILY SELF-SUFFICIENCY PLAN, A TOOL DESIGNED TO ASSIST COUPLES WITH DEVELOPING FAMILY AND CAREER GOALS NEEDED TO STRENGTHEN RELATIONSHIPS, COMPETE IN THE JOB MARKET, AND DEVELOP FAMILY BUDGETS. PARTICIPATION IS ENHANCED BY THE PROVISION OF TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE, CHILD CARE, AND DINNER FOR PARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN.
